Don't fear expressive type systems. They are your friends. "Expressive" type system is the key here. They might not solve all ur prblms but by golly do they go far. #scala #haskell #purescript #rust #ocaml #idris etc. Also look into proof assistants/formal proof mgmt systems.

Richard Bird passed away last night, after a long illness. He was hugely influential in FP, including Haskell, and in MPC. He will be remembered for the elegance of his work and his writing. He was also my supervisor, my colleague, and my friend, and I will miss him greatly.

Used to look forward to new JDK releases, since about 7: don't care. Why? #scala. Even today with JDK 18 coming out my response is meh. Look at pattern matching in #java. Amateurs! playing catch up for over a decade. JDK as a platform is good - needs TCO. (Green threads, maybe)

You give the SW folks who use this word too much credit. In fields like medicine, it might actually mean something. But In the software world, 95% of the time it is an insecurity-driven attempt at authority, with no research or methodology to back up the claim.
