The Platner tattoo story isn’t about Platner. It's about the people who spent years calling everyone on the Right a Nazi for the slightest association, only to line up like rank-and-file partisans behind a Democratic Senate candidate who wore a literal SS Totenkopf tattoo for 18 years. It's a story about how years and years of moral indignation from the Very Serious People™ class proved to be a paper-thin veneer over your team jerseys.

The evolution of Bernie Sanders' class grievances: → "millionaires and billionaires" → *becomes multi-millionaire* → "billionaires" → *Elon becomes trillionaire* → "billionaires and trillionaires" If he just said "people richer than me", he could stop updating it.
One @elonmusk has created more value than a trillion @BernieSanders ever could. Envy and jealously is all this is really about…

Update?
Trying to think of a vibe shift worse than the one Trump/Dolan inflicted on the Knicks. Comey 2016? Yoko Ono dating John? Armstrong/Sosa/McGuire Steroid reveal? Gamergate?

There are so many problems with this, but we can start with the critically flawed hamartiology no pastor should preach. Scripture gives the behaviors in view their proper name: sin. Sin is a matter of the heart (Jeremiah 17:9; Mark 7:21-23). It cannot be attributed to any race as such-except the fallen race of Adam, which Joel is plainly not invoking. Racializing sin produces partiality in judgment, which God forbids, rebukes, and will ultimately judge (James 2:1–9; Deuteronomy 1:17). Quoting Amos 5-a prophetic indictment of God's own people for perverting justice-is, to choose the softest word possible, ironic. The one remedy for human depravity is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which redeems individuals from every nation, tribe, and tongue without partiality (Galatians 3:28; Revelation 5:9; Acts 10:34-35). While God has ordained civil rulers to punish those who do evil (1 Peter 2:14), that sword is to be wielded against "the one" who practices evil (Romans 13:4), not against any "race". Any theology of justice that essentializes racial taxonomies foreign to Scripture must be rejected.
America doesn’t have a race problem. We have a problem race. We tried entitlement. Now let’s try justice. “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Amos 5:24 ESV

The bill calls for the SecDef to appoint an agent to assist on defense tech cooperation, and Brett is parroting propaganda from the literal Iranian lobby that laughably spins this into the death of American sovereignty. Not sure what happened to him, but the trajectory is grim.
This madness must end. Cramming attacks on sovereignty into a “must pass” omnibus bill is obviously antidemocratic, unAmerican, and a threat to the Republic itself. It is a gun to the head of ‘consent of the governed’— the sole basis of the legitimacy of governmental power.

This is a baffling tweet, because it says twice that Platner has “a history of bad decision-making,” and then confirms that that bad decision-making causes all sorts of other problems, and then concludes that this would not matter for . . . a member of the U.S. Senate.
The Graham Platner story is landing because it confirms a bunch of his critics’ prior concerns: unvetted, history of poor decision-making, the kind of light misogyny that tends to go along with male bad decision-making. Those are all problems! But it’s worth asking if they’re problems that should be disqualifying for a senate seat and I think the answer to that is no.

So, on top of everything else, the Nazi tattoo guy is a philanderer. Naturally, this calls for strict scrutiny of the aide.

Platner: "I just wanted to kill some people. War was the most enjoyable experience of my life." Libs: "Ahh, the patriotism of a starry-eyed 8 year old. 😍😍"
Platner “said he dreamt of going to war since he was 8 and now blames Susan Collins for sending him,” Girdusky says. Yes, we have a very militaristic and hyper-patriotic culture. 8 year old boys are told that becoming a soldier is the highest calling. When they turn 18, many enlist. Many then re-enlist, their path chosen. To say that a reckless war is actually the fault of the dreaming 8 year old, or the idealistic 18 year old, and not the senators who voted for it and funded it is just funny.

The entire Platner defense is based on treating the words and actions of an adult as anything but just that. When you get right down to it, Platner put more blame on the victims of rape than Democrats are wiling to put on him for doing so.

I’m a straight white dude, a veteran who grew up in a military family on farms in the Midwest. Moved to Texas on a scholarship from the Army. I drive a truck, listen to country music, and love football. I dare anybody to call me UnAmerican, and I’m fully behind Talarico.

Yeah, no. The victory is not the negotiation. Iran has been “negotiating” for 15 years.
President Trump is the ONLY one who could have gotten Iran — the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism — to the negotiating table. We are greatly encouraged to learn a PEACE DEAL in Iran is underway — and look forward to learning more about the specifics. Under President Trump’s leadership, our nation is stronger, more respected on the global stage, and safer than ever before.
Community note

This is a beautiful read.
I almost hesitate to promote this, because it wasn't really intended to be a piece. I just sort of sat down and it came out. Maybe someone else out there has the same type of day today, and it'll speak to them. realclearpolitics.com/articl…
