Remember when Spencer Pratt ran for mayor on bringing back production to LA by making it more affordable for productions, livable for crews, and less apt to be burnt down by fires? Meanwhile Karen Bass ran by saying everything's fine and let's buy homeless new teeth?

Very difficult to see a way out of this death spiral. Look at the OBSESSION art director situation.
“Beetlejuice,” “The Social Network” and “Spaceballs” were all shot in Los Angeles. But their sequels? All filmed overseas. “The studios want you to make everything for less money,” says “Spaceballs 2” producer Brian Grazer. “You’re forced to go out of the country to make it for less money.” Read the full cover story on the mass exodus of LA productions by @GeneMaddaus: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHp4O

OBSESSION has it both ways. The narrative text of the film is clear that Bear makes selfish and abusive choices. The images, however, tell a different story. For most of the movie, Nikki is a mentally unwell, self-harming girlfriend that is recognizable to men in the audience.
For those confused by Obsession's massive success let me break it down for you the best I can. Curry barker has essentially tapped into the genz female lizard brain with this movie. The same female lizard brain which ranks nice guys worst than actual rspists and criminals. Why is it so? I don't know but every girl has her Bear and has utter unrealised hate against them which never gets released But here in the movie their greatest horror fantasy of loving a loser and him being actually bad gets realised and their unrealised hate gets a channel. Thats why you have seen 160,000,000 women write the same essay on the movie. This is a generational movie because it's the first time a genz director has used his street knowledge subtly and made millions off of it.

Interesting quote/view point from Seth Rogan about how risk adverse studios are in Hollywood today. And how they are particularly hung up on casting but not in a good way. From his June 13 ‘26 interview in the NYT. Good read.

It would be nice if a quarter of our country stopped trying to tear down the richest empire in human history with mass migration, tribal race politics, and gender war.
In 2007, the standards of living in the United States and Western Europe were similar, and most people don’t realize how much things have diverged since the US boomed after the global financial crisis and Europe didn’t. They don’t fully understand how we’re living and we don’t fully understand how they’re living; even when we visit Europe as tourists, we don’t see their tiny, sad flats and their depressing grocery stores. That is why Europeans visiting for the World Cup are going to, like, a Waffle House or a Taco Bell and losing their minds. Stuff we don’t even like or care about is wildly superior to everything everywhere else. We have no idea how rich we are.

It’s bad to lie about someone’s biological sex in front of the White House.
“Michelle Obama is a man” shouted on the White House lawn in a ring sponsored by Bud Light only available on Larry Ellison’s Paramount Plus. What a way to celebrate America 250 and the twilight of liberal democracy.

David Halberstam’s book THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST showed that JFK’s team of brilliant academics and policymakers were all incompetent fools who got lost in Vietnam.
JFK once invited to dinner 49 Nobel laureates, Robert Frost, William Styron, Ernest Hemingway, James Baldwin, Katherine Anne Porter, John Dos Passos, James Farrell and Lionel and Diana Trilling, and others. His line on the occasion became famous: “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House—with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." Some of you were alive when that happened.

The Zoomers like movies. We may survive for another generation.
You people are f*cking obsessed! OBSESSION is on track for another $20M weekend in its 5th week of release—$190M total. Curb-smashing the box office. Again.

The Right thinks art is decoration. But the Left knows that art is power. Patronizing "The Arts" buys the undying loyalty of the of creative class, who in turn create a cacophony of regime-friendly propaganda. They're so loyal that they'll be at the front of any violent protest, putting their personal safety at risk for The Cause. And unlike bullet points on a Powerpoint cooked up in windowless conference rooms by former Yung Republicans with multiple necks spilling out of their ill fitting poly blend suits, propaganda created by artists actually persuades the masses. But the Right will never figure this out. Because they don't understand how power works, nor do they appreciate the cultural impact of beauty, and constantly fall for the banana-duct-taped-to-wall type trolling🤷‍♂️
Art can't be a luxury made by and for the few. But the cost of living has made it impossible for so many New Yorkers to create the culture that makes this city beautiful. I joined Mayor @ZohranKMamdani at MoMA PS1 to talk about my journey in the arts and keeping NYC vibrant.

I work in features, but this is a good overview of the TV writer situation. The rich get richer. Not in favor of mandatory minimum writers rooms, but the current system is more difficult for working people to get ahead.

America's first majority minority generation:
Generation Z has the lowest levels of interpersonal trust of any generation we've ever polled. And although the data is time limited, the velocity of their decline in trust already far exceeds any previous generation.

The best analysis of Sorkin was whoever on here said that what he’s truly gifted at writing isn’t sweeping political epics but “best friends having a fight”
unfortunately don't think it'll have a scene anywhere as good as this

Repeatedly since 2014, every institution in this country will tear itself down to score cheap political points.
Perspective: Rittenhouse walked. Anthony got 35 years. The cases differ—but America judges fear by tribe, not law. newsweek.com/karmelo-anthony…
Community note
Rittenhouse, on video, defends himself from a group of people rushing him, making it self defense and was found not guilty. youtube.com/watch?v=lNsbEi… youtube.com/watch?v=Tvyd3p… Anthony, by testimony of his peers, essentially stabbed Austin for being asked to leave. cnn.com/2026/06/09/us/… Tribalism would be rewarding out-group murder. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribalism dallasexpress.com/metroplex/give… x.com/iAnonPatriot/s… x.com/BreannaMorello… x.com/MrAndyNgo/stat…

There is only a small step from people who demand DEI favoritism to a society that operates completely on tribalism.
The greatest part of this Karmelo Anthony verdict is that it is an undeniable litmus test for where people stand in this country: Firstly - there are good moral black people out there calling this one down the line, and rightly so. Nothing presented in this case was anything other than damning for Karmelo. Not even a SHRED of evidence to present the possibility of doubt for the jury. The black people defending Karmelo; holding him up as some civil rights martyr will NEVER place anything over being black: not right or wrong; not facts; not truth - NOTHING. These people are so blinded by a worldview of black victimhood that they believe they’re always under attack therefor their violent outburst are always “justified.” That is just incompatible with civil society, and there’s WAY too much of it.

Once I heard Leni Riefenstahl’s views on the Earned Income Tax Credit, it ruined her films for me.
Is there an actor/actress whose political views you so vehemently abhor that you can't watch anything with them in it?
