♥️ Vigil to honour murdered and abused toddler Preston Davey on what would have been his fourth birthday today.
Hundreds of people are expected to gather for a candlelight vigil in memory of a 13-month-old toddler who was murdered by his adoptive father.
The memorial for Preston Davey will take place at the Preston Flag Market tonight at 8pm on 16 June - marking what would have been the little boy's fourth birthday.
Members of the public are being asked to "bring candles, bubbles, teddies" and "remember that sweet boy."
The vigil follows a trial at Preston Crown Court, which revealed the abuse Preston suffered at the hands of Jamie Varley, 37, and his partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32.
The court heard how Preston was routinely ill-treated, physically assaulted, and sexually abused while in their care for just under four months at their home in Blackpool.
The jury was told the toddler had suffered 40 traumatic injuries before his death on 27 July 2023.
Following an eight-week trial, a jury spent around 14 hours considering verdicts before it returned to court.
Jamie Varley was found guilty of murder, two counts of assault by penetration, five counts of cruelty to a child, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault of a child, and 13 counts of taking indecent photos or videos of a child. He was also convicted of making and distributing indecent images.
John McGowan-Fazakerley was found guilty of allowing the death of a child, two counts of child cruelty, and one count of the sexual assault of a child.
