I do find it fascinating how there have been a slew of players now over the last few seasons that have specifically wanted to end up with the Washington Wizards. The current culture that's being fostered around positional versatility and flexibility amongst its young players presents opportunities for everyone to contribute, handle the ball, and be productive on offense. Defensive improvements will be key regardless of if its AJ Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson on the Wizards. But again, I LOVE where this franchise is headed.

AJ Dybantsa came away from his workout and meeting with the Wizards under the belief that he will be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, sources told ClutchPoints' @BrettSiegelNBA: “AJ Dybantsa recently worked out for the Wizards and met with the team's leadership at the end of last week, and everything went "perfect," one source close to the situation told ClutchPoints. Between his athleticism on the wing and explosive scoring tendencies, Dybantsa would fit in perfectly with the Wizards. That is why he has been operating under the assumption that he will be the top pick, and the same source said Dybantsa left Washington DC fully of the belief that he would be the first pick in the draft on June 23.” (via clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-sto…)

This is solid. But I’ll continue to say, no one has the wizards beat over the last 3 years. Closest team would be Memphis imo 6-Tre Johnson 21-Will Riley 43-Jamir Watkins 2-Alex Sarr 14-Bub Carrington 24-Kyshawn George 7-Bilal Coulibaly 42-Tristan Vukcevic UDFA-Justin Champagnie

My wizards argument for Dybantsa over Peterson and boozer: Dybantsa- highest ceiling in the entire draft. The most safe pick for #1. Perfect modern day player archetype who projects as a 6’10 jumbo forward that plays with a motor and can do a little bit of everything at a high level- score, create, pass, rebound etc. The athleticism and physical traits lead me to believe he’s going to be a plus defender over time, at worst an average defender. He didn’t miss one game at BYU and put up great numbers with a pretty average roster around him in a tough Big 12. When you pick #1 you’re trying to come away with the best player 5-10 years from now, so you usually try to pick the highest upside prospect of the top guys. Aj so happens to have the highest upside, while also being the safest pick

Boozer goes #1 in your average draft. IMO, the best pure fit next to Alex sarr. Boozer compliments him perfectly with his elite physicality and rebounding skills. The wizards young core doesn’t feature a true PF and boozer would be just that, while also capable of playing Center minutes too. Boozer has one of the safest, if not the safest floors in the whole draft but it’s easy to worry about the upside with his lack of athleticism. When you’re picking #1 in a very good draft, you have to go with the highest upside player and that’s dybantsa

Peterson- last year at this time many had him #1 in this class. There’s no question this kid has a crazy elite offensive skillset and is maybe the best pure scorer I’ve seen coming out since KD. He projects as a 6’6 SG that can also play on ball when needed. The underrated part of his game is how good he is defensively. You could consider him almost an elite defender coming into the nba. Obviously the cramps and several missed games at Kansas are concerning but others have questioned his leadership, motivation, poor habits and more. Wizards drafted Tre Johnson last year, bub Carrington and kyshawn George the year before and bilal Coulibaly the year before that. So they are pretty deep at guard. While I have Aj and Darryn in the same tier, Aj checks far more boxes than Darryn, is less of a worry, and also has more upside, and fits more of a position of need

Just to be clear- this is not my preference. I prefer staying at #1 and selecting Aj. I just don’t think you trade out of #1 when you actually get it, especially with this difficult lottery system. Only way I’d trade #1 is if it’s an offer you simply can’t turn down
If the Jazz actually do try to trade up for #1, my best guess as to what the deal would realistically look like is: Wizards get- #2, Ace Bailey, 2 protected future FRP Jazz get- #1, Tre Johnson In this case i think the wizards would then pick Cameron boozer at #2. I only see the wiz doing this if they feel boozer is good enough to go #1. I know for a fact Ryan smith prefers Aj Dybantsa to Ace Bailey. He’s not gonna be scared to give up 2 futures 1sts if it’s getting the guy he was a donner for and financed his way through college, along with all the other connections between the two sides.

Cameron Boozer is reportedly strongly in the mix to be the No. 2 pick, per @FortyEightMins
