The mayor appointed a politically connected pastor, not a transit expert, to the CTA’s oversight board.
The appointment came the same week Gov. JB Pritzker called for “new leadership” at the CTA. Most people on the board aren’t transit experts.

It’s impossible to get Mayor Johnson to even give *lip service* to the idea that CTA is in crisis, to say nothing of working towards actual solutions.
He’s mentioned that we have a public transit system maybe 5 times since he announced his candidacy!
Today, City Council quietly scheduled a vote on the appointment of Michael Eaddy, who has no relevant transit experience we are aware of, to the CTA board: chicityclerkelms.chicago.gov…
Good piece by Catherine Rampell on the Trump fraud case washingtonpost.com/opinions/… I'll add that, while banks are supposed to do due diligence, they also do this with the understanding that false statements have real consequences.
Having spent several months under airstrikes sometimes more than a dozen a night, often within 100 meters, it was the incoming whistle in this video that was the airstrike giveaway for me. You don’t forget that sound.
“A fragment from a rocket” is not consistent with this.
As far as I can tell, this video, confirmed by the @washingtonpost, is the only close up footage of the strike. The whistle before the blast does not seem consistent with the remnants of a falling rocket, or a misfire. Comparison in next tweet.
Thank you @repdeliaramirez. Dehumanizing rhetoric feeds hate and violence. After 9/11, the words and actions of elected leaders and talking heads sparked a firestorm of Islamophobic hate crimes. We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past. Wadea Al-Fayoume deserved so much better.
Today’s attack in Plainfield is a result of the rising islamophobia and hateful rhetoric spewed about carelessly and recklessly this week. My heart aches with the family of Wadea Al-Fayoume and with each family that has lost a child in this conflict.

I'm only saying this because he (finally) said something nice about me. But @brianbeutler has a new media venture and few people have such a delta between how good they are as a person and how good they are as a writer. you should check it out.

Just arrived in New York for #UNGA78. I’ll be meeting w/ diplomats, UN mandate holders & civil society to advocate on behalf of my brother Ekpar and many innocent victims like him. We can’t live in a world where a superpower perpetrator commit crimes against humanity w/ impunity.
On September 11, 1977, Steven Bantu Biko was loaded into the back of a police van after his arrest, interrogated and beaten by Apartheid police for days. He died the next day in the back of a police van. The white minister of police said he didn't care for Biko's murder.
Some novel prosecution moves here. Pretty easy to envision this kind of sweeping, conspiracy-style prosecution being used in states that are currently trying to criminalize abortion funds and/or the act of driving a person to get an abortion. (Texas has recently tried both!)
Georgia charged 61 people with RICO related to the Stop Cop City movement. Among them are a legal observer arrested while monitoring a protest, bail fund organizers, people accused of distributing fliers, and people accused of trespass or property damage: thedailybeast.com/stop-cop-c…
I fought the city for years to get this letter. AG Raoul determined it was public; Mayor Lightfoot sued Raoul to stop it; Mayor Johnson let it go out. Kudos Mary Richardson-Lowry for doing the right thing. But I never stop chasing chicagotribune.com/politics/…

Seeing all of your posts about parking/driving along the Lakefront Trail and Promontory Point. I had already raised the concerns to the Park District months ago but it sadly seems more explicit direction is needed. I’m sorry for the frustration and danger this causes so many.
