My book, NET GAINS, is out today! It's about why the "data revolution" in the world's most popular game trails far behind sports like basketball and baseball, how that's changing, and how far it might all eventually go. Buy it wherever you buy your books: abramsbooks.com/product/net-…

Asking for a friend: where in Lisbon would be a good spot to watch the Benfica and Sporting games today?

I can't believe a predictive model is a little skeptical of a team that's won two games this season without scoring a touchdown.
Steelers are on a run of luckier results since Russell Wilson took over as starter. Three of the four wins were losses if you go by my adjusted scores

Really impressive five-minute stretch from NBC's broadcast team: bemoaned United letting Scott McTominay go, made fun of a model that said Chelsea's chances of finishing top four changed after the team played soccer games, and dismissed xG as more complicated than nuclear fusion?
Soccer commentary and stats are about 15 years behind where baseball is now.

Probably has something to do with the guy who stole the Ballon d'Or from Vinicius Jr. and Dani Carvajal.

Replying to @rwohan
@rwohan How did "start 4 CBs to prevent counters" City turn into late-Klopp-era LFC?

Baffled by my TV's characterization of the Liverpool-Arsenal game as one-sided. Even on shots. One side has two more touches in the penalty area. The other has slightly more final-third possession.

And as stated before, I'd be quite open to working within a club or consultancy when it comes to scouting for recruitment in football. I'd like to think that I'd be an asset given my portfolio of written/video work in the public sphere since the mid 2010s x.com/MoeSquare/status/18378…

Hi, Never really done this before, but I'd like to put it out there that I'm open to working in any capacity for a club or consultancy in terms of recruitment. I've been doing public player analysis for 8-ish years (both present and historical), including now on YouTube

Lamine Yamal scoring at the Bernabeu and then *showing off his braces* to the crowd might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen happen on a soccer field.

El Clasico is a great reminder that everything in soccer — beating a high line, playing a high line, scoring a 1v1, finishing a tap in — is harder than it looks.

The late run from the CM is the cheat-code to break the high line. Teams almost never adjust because you would never normally build up like that, but it was so easy for RM to get Bellingham free just now.

Real Madrid signed Kylian Mbappe over the summer. Also: they don’t even have the best attack in their own country. I wrote about the Big Game: espn.com/soccer/insider/stor…
