Happy Victoria Day, View Royal! While many of us know Victoria Day as the unofficial start of summer, the holiday also marks the legacy of Queen Victoria, whose reign helped shape early Canada and many of the institutions, traditions, and communities that continue to define our country today. From the naming of British Columbia’s capital city to her role during Confederation, Queen Victoria’s connection to Canada remains part of our shared history. Today is also a chance to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and appreciate the community we are fortunate to call home. Whether you are out enjoying the waterfront, gathering with neighbours, or simply taking a well-earned break, I hope this long weekend gives you time to recharge and connect with the people who matter most. Strong communities are built over generations through shared pride, thoughtful stewardship, and people who care deeply about where they live. Wishing everyone in View Royal a safe, relaxing, and happy Victoria Day weekend. #VictoriaDay #ViewRoyal

"And what the fuck would you know about advocating for gay rights?" In the mid/late 2010s, I founded and directed LoveisLoveisLove, an LGBTQ-advocacy campaign that was responsible for large-scale art/educational installations throughout Ontario. Among other things, I produced what appears to have been the largest art installation ever installed inside Toronto City Hall, as well as Toronto's "Big Gay Bus" (a commuter bus repurposed as a mobile educational resource). I even put together a scholarship focused on LGBT youth in STEM. In the 2020s, I covered LGBTQ activism in Ukraine, Taiwan, and Serbia, producing educational installations for each of these countries that were then displayed at Toronto Pride. I also reported on EuroPride's 2022 Belgrade edition, where thousands of police officers, who mostly hated gay people, had to be brought into the city to ensure that violent counter-protesters did not beat the shit out of us. The event was nearly cancelled because of safety concerns, but I was determined to attend no matter what. I have volunteered countless hours, and put myself in physical danger, in defence of gay rights. You, on the other hand, have... written some angry social media posts? My criticisms of the LGBTQ activist class are rooted in real-world, personal experiences. When I moved in those circles, I witnessed how impractical, insane, and self-defeating those people were/are, which is why I demand better.

Mid/Late 2010's? Oh Jesus fuckin christ.....you can't even get THAT right. And what the fuck would you know about advocating for gay rights? You advocate against gay rights on a daily basis. Get a fucking job you hippy.

Intimate partner violence demands urgent action. MLA Kristina Loewen is calling for the quick passage of Bailey’s Law and a clear provincial action plan to help prevent violence, protect victims, and strengthen supports. This issue rises above politics. Lives are at stake.

Or it could be that we just think that @EricDLombardi has some really good, classic Liberal ideas. The Liberal party used to be centrist until the current crowd steered it hard to the left.
Conservatives are trying to game the Ontario Liberal Leadership and we can’t let them succeed. A few things to remember: 1) If they share something from a candidate, it could be because they like it or it could be that they think it helps them for people to see it. 2) If they criticize a candidate, it could be honest or it could be a way to highlight that candidate. 3) If they claim to support a candidate, it could be true or it could be a way to tank that candidate. Don’t fall for the Conservative game - use your own judgment. #onpoli

These are great columns. I’m glad that Eby is belatedly developing some common sense here.

I'm glad to see Premier @Dave_Eby and the @bcndp acknowledge what I maintained (ahem ahem) in 2021 and in 2024. As Eby admits, via @VaughnPalmer today, the New Democrats had been too concerned about “removing the stigma” on drug use. This headline below was from my 2021 piece: "How anti-stigma campaign mostly misses the point" 1/2 #bcpoli @AdamZivo @somerspsych vancouversun.com/opinion/col…

Should have been built as a bridge. Would have been ready by now.
🧵1/4 BREAKING: The Province has announced that negotiations with the contractor for the new Massey crossing have collapsed and the project is being sent back out to tender. This is a significant setback for one of BC’s most important transportation projects, and raises serious questions about the escalating costs for this project, and how this situation was allowed to develop in the first place.

4/4 Families, workers, and business owners deserve a clear path forward, and the facts on how we got here. That's why I’m bringing an emergency motion to Delta Council tonight, calling for an independent third party review into the circumstances that led to the termination of this procurement process.  It’s time for answers.

This is confirmation that the project had gone wildly over budget…so far over they didn’t date share the number with the public.

3/4 The Massey crossing is not just a Delta issue. It is a critical trade and transportation corridor for Metro Vancouver and the country as a whole. The tunnel connects Canada to Deltaport, the second largest container terminal on the continent, the Blaine-US border crossing, and YVR Airport.

2/4 For years, residents have been told that relief is coming for congestion at the Massey Tunnel. Instead, we are now seeing another major delay in a project that is already long overdue. There is still no clear update on what this means for the project budget, which was last updated over 5 years ago, or completion date, which was previously 2030, but now is in flux. British Columbians deserve to know what this reset means in real terms.

Grateful to be in Castlegar today on behalf of the thousands of charities and not-for-profits and the tens of thousands who rely on them to present recommendations to BC's Standing Committee on Finance for their 2027 Budget Consultation report.

One Ministry as reported by @GlobalBC has massive amounts of fraud bleeding out of the system, the other Ministry routinely apprehends children from good homes when the mothers voluntarily reach out to the Ministry for resource help, forcing the mothers to then go to court to get their kids back. Whatever could go wrong with merging them together?!?!
ICYMI: BC is considering merging the Ministry of Social Development into the Ministry of Children and Family Development to try and knock down silos in service delivery. Would be a massive merger of two large ministries with vulnerable clients. biv.com/news/commentary/rob-…

Thank you, Mayor @BarbDesjardins, for this thoughtful and timely article. The Reconciliation Corridor is worth taking very seriously. View Royal residents already feel the pressure from traffic, growth, and limited transportation options. A better regional connection between the West Shore and Victoria could make daily life easier for families, workers, students, seniors, and small businesses. But support for studying an idea is not the same as a blank cheque. Residents deserve clear answers on cost, route, timelines, neighbourhood impacts, and how this would connect with buses, roads, trails, and existing transportation plans. This is what the technical feasibility study, announced in December 2025, will determine. This could be an important opportunity for reconciliation and regional mobility. The right approach is simple: respect Indigenous leadership, do the technical work, share the facts openly, and make decisions based on evidence. Good ideas deserve a serious look. Big decisions deserve clear answers. timescolonist.com/opinion/co…

I was really hoping for a thoughtful discuss but all I got from @maxfawcett was the usual mockery, laced with pedantic smugness. You nailed this, @ExnerPirot, by showing up with clear and verifiable arguments.
Is there a business case for Canadian LNG? @ryanjespersen had myself and @maxfawcett on to debate the question. I pointed out the recent $22B Shell acquisition of ARC, the German deals for Ksi Lisims LNG, the construction of Woodfibre and Cedar with 100% offtake, and the lineup of reps from China, South Korea, Japan, India and Indonesia to talk about Canadian O&G are concrete and obvious evidence of “yes”. Carney and Eby seem to agree with me. Fawcett argues Asian nations will limit themselves to EVs, solar panels and batteries. When Shell FIDs LNG Canada Phase 2, we will know who was right. youtube.com/live/oXoCqbAIang…
