More than twice as many women veterans are running for Congress this cycle. @WithHonorAction identifies 752 veteran candidates running nationwide, highlighting a significant shift in who is stepping up to serve. I joined @KatyTurNBC on @MSNOWNews with @GovSherrillNJ, the first woman veteran elected governor, to talk about this and Courage Can Save US. Gov. Sherrill's chapter is one of my favorite subtitles: “I’ve done harder things than make a statement or take a vote.”

One of the great joys of writing Courage Can Save US was spending years getting to know the families of each of the ten. In every story, there was a parent—and often a mentor—who instilled an integrity, humility, and commitment—what I came to see as the three roots of courage.

COURAGE: It is the missing link among many leaders today.

Rye shares in-depth profiles of 10 government officials, most of them veterans, who displayed great courage. Some even sacrificed their elected positions for standing up for their beliefs.
