Today we're launching Latent-Y: the world's first autonomous agent for drug design, lab-validated end to end. Give it a research goal. Latent-Y reasons, designs, iterates, and delivers lab-ready antibodies, autonomously or collaboratively, with the biological reasoning of a PhD protein design expert. Great summary of my CVPR keynote.
In the first keynote "Programmable Biology: Generative AI for Molecular Design" from @saakohl starting by showing us the exponential we're getting accustomed to in AI/ML giving us a primer on "what is a protein, what should we care, what's up with this folding stuff, ..."

Next week, I'm giving an invited plenary keynote at @CVPR 2026 in Denver. The talk is titled "Programmable Biology: Generative AI for Molecular Design." I did my PhD in computer vision, so this feels like home turf. Before starting @Latent_Labs, I worked on AlphaFold. So being invited to the main stage, to talk about what comes after structure prediction, feels like the right conversation at the right time. See you in Denver. June 5, 2:45pm. We’re crossing a threshold in biology from discovery to design. @saakohl and @Latent_Labs are showing what that actually looks like in practice. Their new Latent-Y system doesn’t just assist scientists. It replaces entire workflows, turning a therapeutic idea written in natural language into lab-ready candidates. We're excited to have Simon Kohl speaking at SynBioBeta 2026 this May 4-7th in San Jose, California, you can learn more about the conference and get your tickets here: syntheticbiologysummit.com/?… No manual iteration. No fragmented pipeline. Just end-to-end design. With lab-validated results and orders-of-magnitude speedups, this is no longer theoretical. This is exactly why being in the room matters. You don’t get this level of clarity from a paper or a post. You get it from conversations, from questions, from seeing how people are thinking in real time. Relationships are built in the room. Deals happen in the room. Breakthroughs happen in the room. Visit the SynBioBeta website to read the full article:synbiobeta.com/read/inside-l…

Our own protein design team has switched to Latent-Y for their campaigns. A single researcher can now drive dozens of programs in parallel, more targets, more strategies, more exploration than any team could previously pursue. We're rolling out with selected partners now, who can put this to work immediately on the Latent Labs Platform. Apply here: platform.latentlabs.com

Latent-Y already runs at scale, hundreds of campaigns, dozens of programs in parallel. We're building toward something bigger still: a scientific engine that closes the loop with robotic labs and reaches discoveries no single team could achieve alone. We're just getting started.

Great to see lab success of our models in the hands of others! Designs were made by a number of different scientists using Latent-X1 - no coding required. Latent-X1 is available in a free tier under platform.latentlabs.com/ - the designs are yours. Of course 4 weeks ago, we published Latent-X2, our next generation model with another jump in performance on on all modalities - antibodies, cyclic peptides and mini-binders. Latent-X2 is in early access and available in partnerships.

Here are the success rates of de novo pipelines based on which designs I could actually identify the methods for.

Love seeing external teams succeed—Onava just published their Latent-X1 binder results! Using the Latent Labs Platform to design proteins in the web browser, the team around Sharrol Bachas was able to design binders against a particularly challenging immune target. They completed design-lab loops in just 7 days! Key highlight: Nanomolar-strength binders with high target specificity, outperforming that of other approaches in their lab comparison. Of course we just launched Latent-X2 now enabling drug-like antibody design. Reach out if you'd like to explore what that could mean for your pipeline. See their preprint here: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
