Allow me to explain something to people who probably already know this, but with the hopes that it will penetrates some who don't.
The so-called Big Beautiful Bill hurts EVERYONE but the extremely wealthy.
First, if you're on Medicaid, don't assume that just because you're qualified you're going to keep it. The Republican narrative that it only those that aren't qualified will lose is it just statistically impossible.
There just aren't 10 million people on Medicaid who are able-bodied, non-working, single people without parents. There just aren't.
The 10 million is going to be reached by imposing administrative requirements, not work requirements. And not jut a one-time requirement but a monthly requirement.
And if you're poor, you might not have a computer. If you live in a rural area, you might not have the internet connection you need.
So you have to go to the library or something--which may or may not already be closed--to do fill it out online. And that's if you can figure out how to do it.
The GOP is betting that enough people will just give up and lose their health insurance.
But you're not on Medicaid. Fine.
Do you live in a rural area? Estimates are that 33-45% of rural hospitals will be forced to close, with 17% of those expected to be in "immediate" danger of closing.
So if you're having a heart attack or in need of emergency care, or one of your kids are, or your parents are, or your spouse is, how long of an ambulance ride is it to the nearest hospital? You might wanna look that up.
Do you own your own business? Or do you work for a local business? In most small towns with hospitals, the hospital is the largest employer and the largest consumer, so how is your business going to do when the local economy goes into a massive recession?
If you're fine with all that because you work for a big company from home, and you have great insurance, don't feel too smug.
Those people not getting medicaid are still going to fill up emergency rooms, and the cost of that is going to be passed on to paying customers, which means your insurance rates are going to go up.
You don't pay for your insurance? It's 100% covered by your employers? Don't think that makes you safe either. Your employer's costs are going to go up, and they're going to pass that on to you one way or another.
That means your bonuses aren't coming, and you're not getting raises. Or else it means layoffs are coming. And even if you survive the layoffs, your workload is about to go up.
Live in a big city? Don't think that those large urban hospitals are safe. Same domino effect applies there.
And it's not just hospitals. It's also nursing homes. Are you ready to take care of your parents? Or are you just going to dump them into the street and laugh while pointing at your MAGA hat?
Is your home ready for one of you to quit your job and stay at home to take care of an elderly person along with the kids?
Remember, if you'd voted for Kamala Harris, you would have in-home assistance covered by Medicaid instead of having their Medicaid cut.
I'm not going to joke about leopards eating faces here because everyone face is food right now, whoever you voted for.
