Yesterday I was working with students who could sort decimals from least to greatest, but had NO CLUE how to place them on a number line.
In this video I advocate for teaching number lines rather than comparing and sorting.

There are now 63 more blue counters than yellow counters in the box. How many blue counters were in the box at the start?" "Gabriel and Donevan have some money. The ratio of the amount of money Gabriel has to the amount Donevan has is 3:7 Donevan receives $9 from his mother. The ratio of the amount of money that Gabriel has to Donevan is now 1:3 How much more money did Donevan have than Gabriel at the start?"
