Two players strike out looking. One blames the umpire. The other is upset because he missed a fastball earlier in the at-bat he should’ve driven. One protects his ego. One improves. Which hitter are you?

Reminder for catchers to PREPARE the umpire for the pitcher you are catching. Give the umpire a quick scouting report on your guys arsenal. FB movement, shape of breaking ball, what area of zone he is most effective, ect. Want to make sure umpire not caught off guard by a pitch because of how it plays. Example: “Hey Tim (Umpire) this reliever Nolan Ryan has an explosive FB at top of the zone. Where we plan to live. CB is a hammer 12-6 shape. Will use change vs lefties that sinks. Hasn’t walked anyone since he was 12 yrs old.” Exchange can be quick. Main thing is to make sure ump is not caught off guard by a pitch in a big situation.

There was never 1 game where I felt 100%. Early on I accepted it as a part of my position (catcher) and that I had to live with it and grind through it everyday.
MLB players rarely play feeling 100%. They play hurt, sore, banged up, bruised, sick and on days they simply don't want to play. Amateur Players Toughen up and learn to empty the tank, even on days you feel like shit. Know the difference between being hurt and injured. Your teammates and coaches need to be able to count on your toughness.

This is a great reminder for anyone and everyone!
During one of the worst losing streaks of my career, our team president walked into my office. Keli McGregor. One of the best men I've ever known. He could have come to vent. To question my decisions. To ask hard questions. Instead, he said: "Cut to the chase, Clint. What's next?" I looked him in the eye and gave him two words: "Shower well." The Colorado Rockies were struggling badly that year. Pregame preparation was solid. Scout meetings, early work, attention to detail. All of it was there. But at game time, the tires were flat. I told Keli: the game did everything it could to us today. We just couldn't meet its demands. Now it was time to reset. "Shower well" means exactly this: • Watch the frustration circle down the drain • Shampoo, rinse, repeat and get the grime of today completely off your mind • Walk out clean, go home, and actually rest Leave it at the ballpark. The game is over. There's nothing left to solve tonight. Keli nodded. Asked if he could share it with the whole organization. I said sure. And then it hit me. This isn't just for baseball. Bad day at the office. Grumpy boss. Missed deadline. Traffic on the way home. You can carry all of that through your front door. Or you can shower well. I've never seen a single problem get better because someone dragged it home with them. The reset is a discipline. Same as preparation. Same as showing up. Either we win. Or we learn. The only real loss? When you don't take a single thing out of a hard day. So tonight, whatever kind of day it was, shower well. Tomorrow is a new at-bat. What does your reset look like? I'd love to hear it.

Man. I felt this response.
Aaron Judge said friends and family told him about the criticism that Team USA wasn't having as much fun as other WBC teams. “Everybody’s different. Every culture is different,” he said. “I loved everything that Mexico was doing, Great Britain, the D.R. How they celebrate the game, it was amazing. If they’re going to say we don’t have the passion – my passion is grinding in this [batting] cage when nobody’s watching. “You know, grinding as a 6-year-old in the backyard with my dad. That’s where our passion came from as kids. If I don’t show it outwardly like that, it doesn’t mean I don’t love the game.”

Ryne Nelson continues to be underrated. He's been the #Dbacks most reliable starting pitcher over the past two years, yet was relegated to a bullpen role for a portion of last season. I asked him if that taught him anything. Big League answer here:
