Hundreds of thousands of disabled people with lifelong conditions are repeatedly being put through pointless PIP benefit reassessments, contrary to official guidance, wasting public money and “significantly harming” their mental and physical health . theguardian.com/politics/202…

Letter from members of the Lords from palliative care, psychiatry and law, on the #AssistedDyingBill. >> "the Bill ... failed because too many of its supporters were unwilling to engage with the complexities of developing a law that is genuinely safe, equitable and compassionate." This is true.

In some ways I welcome Lauren Edwards' reintroduction of the #assistedsuicide/#assisteddying bill. In order for the Parliament Acts to apply, it must be the exactly the same terrible bill. This is what the Hansard Society said about the bill that passed the HoC:

I was once sympathetic towards assisted dying in the UK. But in the context of a broken social care system that fails to provide dignity, examples of Disabled people starving to death, naming the DWP in their suicide notes?! No Labour MP should support this unsafe divisive bill

It turns out that Lauren Edwards, the MP who wants suicide to be available on the NHS for disabled people, has used unacceptable disability slurs in the past. Is this why she hasn't consulted any of the disabled-led organisations who unanimously oppose this Bill?

There are two issues: the principle and this particular bill. However, you stand on the principle of assisted dying ( VERY different from assisted suicide which this bill is sneaking in with the lack of safeguards) this bill is so unsafe it is actually dangerous.
Very sad to see my colleague Lauren Edwards MP bringing the deeply flawed and unsafe Assisted Dying Bill back as a PMB. If it was safe and brilliant why did the Lords sponsor of the bill bring 77 amendments in the Lords? It cannot just be brought back as it is and forced through.

Funny how all the pro #assisteddyingbill advocates have turned off replies to their tweets. What are you all afraid of? The truth?

It is infuriating. Even more so when you realise this is a government bill behind the scenes, and it exists because they don’t want to pay for people to have quality palliative care. Kim Leadbeater was the face of this dangerous bill because Labour knew they’d win no votes with this, when their party is already in a wreck. You can read more here- x.com/talkthattalk_k/status/…

Absolutely infuriating that one of my colleagues has decided that what Parliament should focus on in the coming months - given everything going on in the world and here at home - is bringing back the assisted dying bill. Head in hands.

This Bill is unanimously opposed by disabled-led organisations representing millions of disabled people across the UK. Lauren Edwards hasn't consulted us. She's spent days closeted with the secretive multimillionaire lobbyists behind this Suicide Bill. Her priorities are clear.

Why have people learnt nothing from 1930's Germany? Assisted Dying, or as the Nazi's called it, "Gnadentod," or merci death was the precursor to the holocaust. #carenotkilling

MP Emme Lewell: “Absolutely dismayed the Assisted Dying Bill is being re-introduced. Not a single one of our major medical or professional bodies support it. A deeply flawed & dangerous bill that poses a real risk to the most vulnerable in our society” independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

People with Long Covid and ME deserve excellent supportive mental health care. That is why we are reaching out to #RCPsychIC to include current patient expertise in future policy. What can be done to move forward? Why did 58 charities & orgs sign an open letter with concerns?👇️ #HearOurVoices 🔄

This is a mistake. It’s a flawed Bill. The whips ought not to be pushing this. If the government wants this in legislation it needs to be in a manifesto so that the electorate, which is just as divided on the issue, as Parliament have a say. It will of course be blocked again.
🚨Breaking - Lauren Edwards will bring the assisted dying bill back. The Labour MP says the process has been “frustrated” and she will use her spot on the private members bill ballot to return the bill to the Commons

We have debated this deeply divisive and flawed Bill for over a year and nothing has changed nothing. This Bill will hand sweeping, unchecked powers over life and death and our NHS to future governments..whoever they are. Insane stuff.

Do Labour honestly want to spend 2026-29 debating this? “Where the reason…is because in your mind you are influenced by your circumstances—for example, because you are poor—should you be barred from having an assisted death? In my view [you should] not.”

Hearing it’s a Labour MP set to reintroduce it. It’s first and foremost the wrong thing to do morally - the assisted dying bill puts vulnerable people at risk. But it’s also an insane political manoeuvre. So divisive for the Labour Party and couldn’t come at a worse time.

I cannot believe we are back here once again. With no humility about the concerns raised previously, let alone attempts to address these in the HoL as it assiduously went about its work as the revising chamber. We have enough to get on with right now without further division.

A total distortion of what happened in the Lords: - Nearly 150 Peers actively opposed the Bill including leading medical & legal experts. - The Lords held a select committee. Here was its verdict: x.com/i/status/1991199384927…
