Let me explain the trick.
The government says it will remove the โน3/litre excise duty on E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol.
Sounds like petrol is getting cheaper.
But what is actually happening?
You are getting more ethanol mixed into your fuel. In the case of E27, that's 7% more ethanol than E20.
So the government saves โน3 in tax and calls it a discount, while you get fuel with a higher ethanol content.
The government has extended central excise duty exemptions to petrol blended with 22%, 25%, 27% and 30% ethanol. There will be a nil excise duty rate for fuel blends that conform to BIS standards.
