Attempting to get news on #Florida through @X has become impossible. It's endless posts about woke mind viruses, election rigging, and geo-engineering storms - all linked back to #HurricanMilton. I can't find anything sensible anymore 🫠

And getting a little lost in this is that poor people should be able to go to college. My parents couldn't afford to put a penny toward my education (and they were very hard working folks), I worked all through undergrad and grad school, and STILL had 100K loans.

Americans with student loans are out here begging people to listen because we are spending DECADES paying on these loans, but the balances never move. I have paid my entire loan balance from 2006 $10,000, & I still owe more than the original loan. THIS IS CALLED USURY, & it is the norm. Debt consolidation scams are also rampant. My debt is on the lower end, but people are out here with 6 figure loan balances they will NEVER pay off. These aren’t loans, it’s crime. Unfortunately, a lot of people—older Americans especially—have no idea this is our reality. Individuals are blamed, instead of the *extremely lucrative* student loans scam. People say, “Just pay your debts.” WE PAID OUR DEBTS, and then we paid them again, & again, & again. The balances never budge. I graduated college 20 years ago. End Stage Capitalism is SO bleak.

The execution of Marcellus Williams is a horrible injustice. This didn’t have to happen. Just a couple weeks ago, prosecutors—with the support of the victim’s family—had reached a plea agreement with Marcellus that took death off the table.

What does it say about our legal system when the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to stop an execution even when the county prosecuting agency that handled the original trial files a brief in support of a stay and supports vacating the entire conviction? #MarcellusWilliams

The @NAACP is urgently calling on Gov. Mike Parson to stop the execution of #MarcellusWilliams. In an open letter, they warned that executing Marcellus would be a “horrible miscarriage of justice” and a reflection of Missouri’s troubling racial past. essence.com/news/naacp-marce…

Despite admissions of serious prosecutorial misconduct, including improper handling of evidence, #MarcellusWilliams is still facing execution in four days. His last chance is for @GovParsonMO to intervene. Call, tweet, and e-mail Gov. Parson now and urge him to stop the execution before it’s too late at 417-373-3400. shorturl.at/K7jDT

This is💯true, not just as faculty but also as a grad student. I tried to lean into it as a way to mitigate the harm, but that only worked with some people.
Replying to @JeffSharlet
I did my dissertation on faculty from poverty-class and working-class backgrounds and I learned that you're evaluated on what you don't know (i.e., wine, silverware, international travel). See also: nytimes.com/2000/11/27/natio…
