I agree with Joe.
MP Joe Morris tells #PoliticsLive he's “uncomfortable with the bluntness” of Labour colleague Lauren Edwards’ proposal to potentially use the Parliament Act to prevent the Lords blocking another attempt to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales bbc.in/4uN1lvG

Ashley, we don’t believe you. Dignity in Dying has funding they absolutely didn’t just find in a pot of gold at the end a rainbow. The advertising they’ve paid for alone screams wealthy donors are involved. And it’s several Labour MPs arguing against reason and basic common sense about safeguarding to get this bill through with as few safeguards as possible. Why? Were you aware they voted down safeguards for non-terminal disabilities? What AD bill ONLY for terminally ill people needs to remove safeguards for those with autism, anorexia, Down’s syndrome or diabetes, Ashley? Because that’s the point when it became very clear this bill is sinister and it is this government’s preferred alternative to funding proper palliative care and having so many people on disability benefits. Why now? Why be so desperate to rush this through? Convenient timing with 50% benefit cuts for disabled people who are new claimants. This government is also very aware there are only around 700k jobs in this country for millions who are unemployed and looking for work. They’re also facing the consequences of letting a mass disabling virus let rip and all the newly disabled people who need support. This IS Labour’s bill. Don’t treat people like they’re stupid and can’t figure this out for themselves. Labour is very aware they’d lose even more voters if this was stated as their bill. The way to get this through was find a charity to do it to make it look like “helping terminally ill people” when it’s actually the government wanting to save money by any means.
Replying to @PolitlcsUK
I must clarify this is NOT a Labour Bill. There are plenty in the party, like me, that do not support it and find it dangerously flawed and unsafe.

Here we go again... rather than working to ensure a 'good death' for all by funding end of life care, yet another misguided MP is pushing for assisted suicide Thankfully my @BBCOne documentary explaining mine & others opposition is still on @BBCiPlayer bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

When you put #LongCovid into the same bucket as #MECFS one thing ends up being glaringly obvious. After 6.5 years, the most important thing is still just getting folks to "believe" their illness is real. Validation is whatt we really need, not treatment. - Validation
Without getting into the "hope inspiring music" and the scenes of a woman going for a walk and doing work, the @WADeptHealt would like you to know a few things about #LongCovid : 1) It's just normal covid symptoms. 2) 8-9 providers to get diagnosed. 3) Validation is the lifeline patients need. It's been 6.5 years, is anyone angry yet?

A predictable outcome - most likely also the intention of Gov's. Long Covid is being hidden away and classified as a different condition. This won't benefit either set of patients imho. Both conditions need diagniostics and treatments in their own right but this is conflation.
Not once but twice, AND it manages to other people with eugenics. This is a beautiful addition to my collection of the thing that nobody ever, ever, says.

So a deeply dangerous bill that intends to remove safeguards once it’s through the door is being forced AGAIN and refuses to ensure safeguarding. Anyone who gives a damn about people being able to make a decision on AD without coercion being a factor, will oppose this bill. Unfortunately, many will still back this bill because it’s the cheaper solution. They would rather let you, your loved ones suffer to the point of asking for AD rather than fund proper palliative care. That’s already coercion. It’s also cheaper to people being on benefits. In a country that let a mass disabling virus let rip - this is a cost saving bill. But we knew this was the agenda since the committee stage when we first heard them vote away safeguards for non terminal disabilities. No one needs AD for autism, Down’s syndrome, anorexia or diabetes. But that’s what they voted on. Any safeguards in place to get this bill through the door is smoke and mirrors to allow state sanctioned death via the back door. It must fail. This bill is completely unsafe for all. Even those they’re hiding this appalling bill behind. They’re using these terminally ill people to get this through. They do not care what happens with them at all.
🚨Breaking - Lauren Edwards will bring the assisted dying bill back. The Labour MP says the process has been “frustrated” and she will use her spot on the private members bill ballot to return the bill to the Commons

"If they [Dignity in Dying] actually cared about terminally ill people at all, they would FIRST advocate for proper palliative care. But they aren’t. You all need to start asking yourselves why and be more aware."
Dignity in Dying still not acknowledging the dangers of this bill. Why? They’ve spent millions trying to get this across the finish line for the government. The connections BTS are disturbing. More to come on that. This is not about helping terminally ill people at all. It’s about the government quietly trying to get out of funding proper palliative care for those suffering because killing them is far cheaper. No AD bill ever needs to vote away safeguards for non terminal disabilities but this one did and Dignity in Dying are more than aware this is the case. They all said are fully complicit in trying to kill off some disabled benefit claimants to save the government some money. If they actually cared about terminally ill people at all, they would FIRST advocate for proper palliative care. But they aren’t. You all need to start asking yourselves why and be more aware. You can read more in the link to a post from me on this including the votes for removing safeguards for non terminal disabilities. x.com/talkthattalk_k/status/…

Kit Malthouse, hardcore supporter of the Bill, just told @SebastianEPayne @TimesRadio that MP supporters of the Bill must NOT amend the Bill. Every amendment, no matter how vital, will be rejected by Lauren Edwards MP.

🚨They are desperate to keep this on their agenda. No Royal College supports it and many explicitly say is unsafe and will harm vulnerable people. Organisations representing disabled people have said the Bill is unsafe. Domestic abuse charities have said the Bill is unsafe. 🚨We need to cut the welfare budget 🔴The Assisted Dying Bill will be reintroduced to Parliament next week by Labour MP Lauren Edwards (Private Member’s Bill).

Powis and Navina Evans engineered the PA and resident dr training debacle. Whitty supported the current capacity framework for the assisted dying bill, then tried to walk back his words. I would like Powis and Whitty to do the right thing at least once.

If they try and push through the Assusted Dying Bill we need a GE immediately because pushing through something extremely unsafe & expensive without the public voting for it is wrong. Something this big that changes the relationship between the State & individual needs a public vote. Starmer wont get away with this

There is an implied threat in Lauren Edwards letter that the Parliament Acts might be used if the Lords do not pass this Private Members Bill. This briefing from the HoL library shows it is not that simple - lordslibrary.parliament.uk/p…

Absolutely dismayed that the Assisted Dying Bill is being re-introduced. Not a single one of our major medical or professional bodies support it. A deeply flawed and dangerous bill that poses a real risk to the most vulnerable in our society.
