The 340B program was created to help low-income patients afford medicine. It allows major hospital systems to buy drugs at massive discounts and charge insurers full price. But here’s the kicker: Hospitals can pocket the difference, while working families end up paying more through higher premiums and drug costs. And these hospitals are not even required to prove that the savings actually reached the patients who needed help. President Trump is demanding transparency, but the hospital lobby is fighting him.
