You need a good and short literature for your vacation? One that you'll definetely no take home unfinished?
My book is intentionally kept short but packed full of stuff you need to learn!
And some people even print it 😅
Do you want to work with the newest databases locally when developing? @stackbricksapp has been updated to support:
👉 MySQL 8.1.0
👉 PostgreSQL 16.0
👉 MariaDB 11.1
👉 Redis 7.2
And all versions before that (even ancient ones!) to run the same version in prod and locally.
🎉 Redis support is live!
Additionally to MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL, you can now create multiple Redis servers on your development machine.
Do you need an ancient version? Everything from v2 to v7 is supported 🤯
The @stackbricksapp application to run multiple databases and versions on your developer machine is now available for all operating systems in public beta 🥳
No invitations more required, you can start testing it immediately 😉 stackbricks.app/
The @stackbricksapp Windows beta version has been released 🥳
Big Thanks to @juse_less for solving the windows virtual machine problems.
The download link will also be available in the development update newsletter I will send on Friday. Subscribe 😉 stackbricks.app/
Redis support for @stackbricksapp is currently being discussed. As Redis has many persistence options, which one should be the default?
I am grateful for anyone sharing their opinion. github.com/tpetry/stackbrick…
With the help of @codebytere, the @stackbricksapp application is now finally available as a macOS Apple Silicon build. 🥳
The update-notifier should inform you in a few minutes about the new release.
🚀 Finally the beta test of @stackbricksapp has started. A few minutes ago I sent the invite to more than 200 interested developers.
If you also want to test it, you can register on stackbricks.app and you will get access with the next batch of testers.
My next newsletter on Sunday will include a registration form for the next batch of @stackbricksapp beta testers.
Subscribe, if you want to be included!

I finally found a name for {Project Foo}, the free multi-platform alternative to DBngin. Big thanks to @sebastiaanluca for the "stack" naming idea and to the domain expert @iam_filip which is trying to help me get the unused .com domain.
I am currently developing a free desktop application like the brilliant takeout from @mattstauffer, but optimized for databases.
I still don't have a cool name yet and can't find a generic one... How do you find your product names? Name generators? Or do you have unused domains?
Here's the first screenshot of {Project Foo} which I am working on. A free desktop application to run multiple different databases versions (even ancient ones) all at the same time on your development machine. It will have full support for linux, macOS (intel m1) and windows.
