I have recently made a tweet that I may cause some people to dislike me. But frankly something like it was going to happen at some point. So I am going to say something bluntly. In the early 2000s I was sexually assaulted by a woman in a senior position to me. 1/

Let's face facts: The people have spoken, and their clear message is that they reject the mosaic theory, embrace the third-party doctrine, and above all else want the Supreme Court to hear more Fourth Amendment cases.

It is but the deep breath before the plunge. So said Beregond to Pippin. Sums up my thoughts right now.

Time to tune in but mute the news channels. Because there wil be enough idiocy tonight without listening to talking heads who mostly don't know anymore than we do. Especially at the moment.

For Channel 4 to entitle its film 'Churchill's Secret Apartheid' is a disgrace. He chaired the War Cabinet meeting of 13 October 1942 that concluded about the US Army, 'They must not expect our authorities, civil or military, to assist them in enforcing a policy of segregation. It was clear that, so far as concerned admission to canteens, public houses, theatres, cinemas, and so forth, there would, and must, be no restriction of the facilities hitherto extended to coloured persons as a result of the arrival of United States troops in this country.' ie Churchill took the exact opposite stance to that implied by Channel 4, who chose a novelist to present the programme rather than an historian #churchill #ChurchillShow

This sounds like an excellent idea for a cooking show.
Idea for a TV show: The masked chef. Several masked celebrities each have to cook a meal with a professional chef in a hilarious costume. Communication is only allowed if it's sung out loud.

Just listened blind to Medical Marijuana vs Horn. Still struggle to tell some justices apart. No view on likely outcome - I'm just an overseas yahoo after all - but I did prefer the style of the second counsel. First counsel seemed quite argumentative & more spray and pray.

From the purported facts as I understand from the argument I know which side I hope will win. Which is distinct from which side actually has the stronger legal argument. The Justices did seem more inquisitorial with the first, more amicable (though not soft) with the second.

The White Ensign 'flies' again on destroyer HMS Exmouth after a team of divers surveyed the wreck. Exmouth was the first RN surface ship lost with all hands in #WW2, torpedoed off Wick in Scotland in January 1940. 🔗 royalnavy.mod.uk/news/2024/o…

My department got moved into a new office building today. Must say one of the better office moves I've endured. Hats off to my colleagues who had to help shift c200 chairs. "Lucky" me had a 3 hr meeting instead. I think I would have rather helped with the chairs :)

Regarding the sinking of the HMNZS Manawanui, the idea that the captain's gender is in any way relevant is absolute tosh. Plenty of ships with male captains sink too. Sometimes when something goes wrong all you can do is try to avert and limit loss of life.

And plenty of male captains can be incompetent - see Captain Francesco Schettino of the Costa Concordia. Commander Gray managed to get her entire crew off with no loss of life. Regardless of the precise cause of the sinking - which the investigation will hopefully uncover -

that already speaks well of her. And if I was to guess, based on that, she will want to know as much as anyone what, if anything, was missed so the chances of another captain or another crew suffering what she and hers have just suffered can be reduced.

Random query to any Yanks who are unfortunate enough to have chosen to follow me: Do you guys ever use the word conflab or is this more a British thing?

It is to my shame I can, on audio, only reliably identify two of the Justices.
