Hittrax not measuring spin is such an easy limitation to work around. Here’s an example of how a productive rep in the cage might go:
Take a swing, see your ball flight. “Decent ball, but feels like I top spun it a little”
Check hittrax: “nice, 100 at 13”
Check blast: *attack angle 19*
Check Hittrax again: *point of contact 17”*
“Okay, my attack angle was a bit higher than my launch angle, confirming my thought that I top spun it. Probably because my point of contact was a bit too far out front. But my exit velo was solid, and that’s a good line drive. Decent miss. Let’s hit another 100 line drive but with true spin next swing. I’ll try to do that by backing up my point of contact”
It’s the archer, not the arrow.
HitTrax is awesome. And just like everything else, it has limitations. But the value it provides greatly outweighs the lack of batted ball spin (Believe me I wish it had it)
If you don’t like it, don’t use it. Pretty simple. But to say it isn’t an insanely useful tool in the player development space is flat out ignorant.
