That assumes city voters and rural voters want completely different things. In reality, many Australians, regardless of where they live, are concerned about the cost of living, housing affordability, energy prices, government debt, immigration levels, and national sovereignty.
One Nation doesn’t have to abandon its rural base to appeal to metropolitan voters. It simply has to convince enough Australians that its policies address problems the major parties have failed to solve.
Political landscapes change. Labor and the Liberals once dominated Australian politics to a degree that’s hard to imagine today. The rise of the Greens, Teals and independents shows voters are increasingly willing to look elsewhere.
The real question isn’t whether One Nation can win city voters. It’s whether the major parties can keep them.
