Find and pursue something interesting that delights you especially, so you become a kind of temporary expert in some phenomenon that you heard about. It’s the way to save your soul — then you can always say, “Well, at least the other guys don’t know anything about this!”

Here are some RTGS/liquidity/monetary policy impact-related links that I found particularly insightful while researching my post. First this from a 1996 BoE working paper bankofengland.co.uk/-/media/…

I hate the way "ops" means "shit work that shouldn't even exist" to so many people. _hate_ it. operations engineering does not consist of firefighting your shitty software, it is the science of delivering value to users.

42 year old me wishes 21 year old me hadn’t been talked into doing a PhD in AI and machine learning. I’d really like to be excited about all the AI/ML work going on at the moment, but all I’m seeing is the same problems/mistakes of 20 years ago, but with more CPU resources.

It sucks when you’ve got a new product idea and your customer research proves that your assumptions were wrong and no one really wants your product. It sucks way more when you don’t do any research and spend months (or years) building the wrong thing.
