On this landmark day when #SarvamAI becomes a unicorn, I think it is time to put the debate over whether India should build its own AI capabilities to rest—for good! Let us reframe the question—from models to intelligence. I think we all agree that we will unlock the full power of AI only when powerful problem-solving intelligence reaches every citizen, enterprise, scientist, farmer and public institution in the country. So, should we be comfortable importing the intelligence that will increasingly flow through the veins of our economy and society? Or should we build the capacity to create sovereign intelligence—rooted in our data, responsive to our needs and grounded in our values? For me, it is a no-brainer.
