The response on the ground is at its full speed following the devastating Myanmar earthquake. With @IFRC network support, the @MyanmarRedCross is there in the earthquake-affected areas, operating mobile health clinics, water purification units, ambulances, and providing emergency relief items, shelter and hygiene kits in Mandalay and Sagaing. The sheer enormity of the devastation left by the Myanmar earthquake is still only starting to emerge. It is one of the worst sudden onset disasters in the Asia Pacific region in recent decades impacting about 17 million people living in Myanmar’s 57 most affected townships. We call for global support: bit.ly/4iON9Nd

To mourn the loss of eight Palestine Red Crescent members killed in Gaza, and stand in solidarity with colleagues in Palestine and other places where humanitarian workers have died, the flags at our IFRC Geneva headquarters are flying at half-mast. A ninth @PalestineRCS member remains missing. Today, alongside IFRC President Kate Forbes @KateForbes_IFRC, we hosted an event to reflect, grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting humanitarian workers everywhere. These dedicated ambulance workers were responding to wounded people. They were humanitarians. They wore emblems that should have protected them; their ambulances were clearly marked. We must protect humanity.

#Myanmar was already going through a complex emergency & now unfortunately impacted by a mega scale earthquake. Scale of this emergency is yet to be known given challenges in reaching areas & mapping the damage. World solidarity with those affected is most needed now. @ifrc

After an earthquake, the first response is only the beginning. It's not just about immediate relief – it's about standing with communities for years to come. People lose their homes, their livelihoods, and loved ones. The @IFRC, alongside the @MyanmarRedCross, is committed to being there through the long recovery, ensuring no one is left behind. Together, we will rebuild lives, one step at a time. @AJMatheou, Regional Director @IFRCAsiaPacific speaking to @CNN.

We need to turn words into action. Some of the big promises are not getting translated into action at the community level where people live. IFRC Secretary General @jagan_chapagain talks about the need for climate action and adaptation with BBC's @CarlNasman at #COP28.
