My simple productivity system
Itโs August 2009 and Iโve lost my job.
I go all in on copywriting and hustle 24/7 for 2 years.
But I burn out.
I lose the will to do anything.
So I take a couple of weeks off and read every piece of productivity advice I can find.
Most of it seems either too complicated or nonsense.
But I boil it down to the essentials and find a system that works for me.
And now:
โข I don't work weekends.
โข I plan my day the night before.
โข I pick no more than 3 tasks to focus on.
โข And my default response to requests is โnoโ.
The result?
I'm more productive than Iโve ever been.
Even though I seldom work more than 4 hours a day.

Video Creators!
Fix your music levels vs dialogue.
Music should NEVER overwhelm your narration.
Finding the right balance takes practice... but here's a simple trick to help you get it right:
Playback a section of your edit with dialogue and background music, and turn your speaker volume WAY down (๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ป๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฐ).
The idea is to turn your volume down until you can hardly hear the music...
At this level, if your narration is still audible and understandable, then your music isn't too loud. Congrats!๐ฏ
But be careful... you also don't want your music to be ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฐ ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ช๐ฆ๐ตโespecially during something like your video's intro.
Managing dialogue vs music volume levels is a constant balancing act, but with practice you will get better and better at finding the sweet spot. โฏ

Video Creators!
When finalizing a video edit you've been working on for hours... it's very common to lose objectivity on your sound mix.
You start to convince yourself it's great, but you're likely over/underdoing something.
Here's my advice on how to ensure quality:
Take a break from the edit for at least a few hours.
When back, do a simple A/B test.

Create searchable content that answers specific questions your audience has.
This won't result in a viral hit, but will have more staying power over the long term.

Video Creators!
The most important thing to remember when editing videos:
Your dialogue/narration/voiceover is the substance of your content. Treat it with more care than transitions or color correction.
Focus on CONSISTENCY and CLARITY in sound design.
Here's how:
- Use a High-Pass Filter to remove unnecessary bass. Start at 60Hz.
- Use a Graphic or Parametric EQ. Boost bass/treble to improve clarity.
- Use a Compressor to narrow the volume range. Don't overdo it.
- Use a Limiter as a volume ceiling to prevent peaking.
Even better? You can apply these at the audio track level, then put all dialogue audio on that track.
Make sure to apply the effects in this order:
1. High-Pass Filter
2. EQ
3. Compressor
4. Limiter
The order mattersโbecause we want to shape the sound BEFORE compressing it.
Focus on dialogue clarity and consistency first.
For much higher quality videosโfocus on the SOUND.
Always remember: Dialogue is KING.
