Really great to be a part of this gathering today as we grapple with changes in contemporary burials

A walk across Green Park will be nice, I thought. I’ll be in plenty of time for my appointment, I thought. But I chose the wrong day; reckoned without having to dodge the Metropolitan Police and the Brigade of Guards. Happy Birthday to HM the King!

I might have remembered had I been offered something in the Honours List. Just saying.

Also tougher sentences for geography masters.
Realistically there’s only one era where we gave the Navy what they actually needed and I suspect it’s time to recreate the circumstances that forced us to properly supply our maritime defences. Ladies and Gentlemen there’s only one thing for it, it’s time for war with France.

The BCP option is to use the Prayer before a Fight at Sea, subbing out ‘our enemies’ with the name of the opposing team.

A composition that is unlikely to make it out of the group stage of liturgical greatness. Who writes this stuff?

This redefinition of safeguarding is a terrible overreach. Every priest deals, most weeks, with people want things from the Church. And will weaponise their claim to be vulnerable in order to target the clergy to get what they want. When everything is safeguarding, nothing is.
This is incredibly important and Angela’s thread explains why. The Charity Commission is trying to move safeguarding from being laser-focused on children and vulnerable adults to being about everyone at all times. It will ow safeguarding in the CofE up completely.

Interesting that this seems to go in a different direction to the recommendations produced by Prof Alexis Jay, commissioned by the Archbishops’ Council to review safeguarding - she called for a move to the statutory definition

Is there a more lanyardist approach to the current crisis in state / populace relations than “ackshully you’re using the acronym in the wrong order”?
The constant banging on about DEI is an infuriating American import into the UK. In the UK we call it EDI. And EDI training is essentially summed up like this: ‘Don’t be a knob to other people, and realise some people face barriers you don’t.’ It’s not some woke conspiracy.

Oak Apple Day 2026 Invited to dinner on this glorious celebration of the Restoration of the King and Church of England, I'm informed that an old Sussex tradition may be enforced, whereby those not wearing a sprig of oak were rudely reminded of their error: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_Ap…

Happy Oak Apple Day! May all the grisly and heretical Puritan interludes of your life end with the happy Restoration of days of cavalier merriment, risqué stage frolics, and High Church rectitude!

I used to be Vicar of a chunk of the Makerfield Constituency. Talk of victimised communities can be patronising: Coal and Cotton were the Kings of the North, funding e.g. much council housing. Wigan dug up all her coal. A brave candidate might push for fracking the Bowland Basin.
