Our new study: how do fisheries respond to large MPAs? We used @GlobalFishWatch data to track fisheries before/after the creation of 5 large MPAs, & compared patterns with nearby waters that allowed fishing.

We recently studied how MPAs change fishing patterns. The @GlobalFishWatch marine manager portal lets anyone do that same analysis (w/AIS) for any country, MPA, policy, etc in a few clicks. Fun seeing a study that took us months to do, now take minutes!

The latest use of modeling framework @j_wilson_white and I developed using size-structured modeling data. Here we used it to see if CA Channel Islands MPAs are being poached. If you don’t have enforcement data, ask the fish.
