🇸🇩 NEW: Former U.S. genocide-prevention official Cameron Hudson warned that the world is once again standing by as the Rapid Support Forces prepares to besiege another Sudanese city, with fighters massing around El Obeid.
Hudson, who previously led the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s genocide-prevention center and served as chief of staff to U.S. special envoys during the Darfur genocide, wrote: “Another perfect example of the international community sitting idly by as the RSF prepares to lay siege to yet another Sudanese city and does nothing to actively prevent it. They will be quick to express their outrage after the killing ends but not before.”
The warning comes as the RSF gathers forces near El Obeid, raising fears of a repeat of El Fasher, where the group carried out atrocities that the U.N. has said amount to genocide, including mass killings of up to 150,000 civilians (Yale estimate), and widespread rapes and sexual violence against women and children.
