I’m delighted to have been re-elected to represent Lavender ward, serving alongside my great friend and colleague, @danielrhamilton. Our majority increased from 93 to 583 on a swing to the Conservatives of 6%. I feel very lucky to represent such a great part of our great city.

I don't think attending an elite 586-year-old institution is any more of an obstacle to modernisation than attending the 471-year-old St John's, Oxford, which has clearly not been a brake on Lewis's excellent work in the 21st century.
Great to see another firmly modernising move from the Royal Family

Hugely positive move - the return of the pavement pizza, pint and pot of tea! Flexibility for business creates places people want to shop, socialise and creates a sense of community

This implies that the main difference between Burnham and Starmer will simply be quicker U-turns.
NEW: Burnham *rules out* awarding financial compensation to Waspi women demanding billions of pounds, following an angry backlash within Labour Greater Manchester mayor has instead floated the idea of offering early access to cheaper travel schemes as recompense ft.com/content/fc90116d-519d…

It’s not just him, Kelvin. Reform’s Head of Policy, @jtworr, described Russia’s invasion as a “regional Slavic conflict” that “he doesn’t much care about”. Dangerous to our national security.
A post found by the Telegraph from Robert Kenyon, Reform’s Makerfield candidate, saying Russia was “ within its rights” to invade Ukraine is enough for me to hope he doesn’t win. If he doesn’t understand Putin is our enemy he has no right to be an MP.

Starmer, Burnham, Farage, Polanski…These men have one thing in common. They all want nationalisation. That will mean companies run by politicians but paid for with YOUR money. There’s only one party that stands against their failed ideas and that’s the Conservatives.

I've just read an extraordinary piece by Lee Cain, former Director of Communications to Boris Johnson, in Conservative Home today. Unfortunately, thinking in politics these days is based on the opinion polls of the day. We often forget that the only poll that matters is the one three years from now. When Boris left office, he left a Conservative Party that nearly 70 per cent of the public thought was untrustworthy and a similar proportion felt was incompetent. This is the mindset that Kemi now has to change. Condemning and attacking her strategy halfway through does nothing to help that.

This is classic Whitehall. ‘Delivery’ - or as taxpayers would call it, ‘do your (expletive!) job’ - should be the focus of everyone in government. But no. Designate a new, additional sub-team who can be the fall guys for failure. Those lanyards aren’t gonna wear themselves!
Each department in government will now have its own delivery unit, led by a senior civil servant. And every Secretary of State and Minister of State will be given a new “delivery advisor” in their private office to support this work. These new delivery functions will be accountable to both their Secretary of State and to my team. This builds on my recent work setting up the new joint No10 and Cabinet Office Delivery Unit. I am also astonished to see @nadhimzahawi retweeting what Mr Orr posted. He, like me, served in the Cabinet of @BorisJohnson. He, like me, knows how critical Britain’s military and moral support has been to preventing a Russian conquest. He used to believe in these things.

The Treasury in which we both served flew the flag of Ukraine alongside the Union flag. We didn’t see fit to describe that as “meaningless virtue signalling” then. Nor did it mean we were any less focused on serving the British national interest.
Reform has pledged to only fly Union, national, county or armed forces flags outside council buildings that we control Simon. Beacuse leadership is about signalling to the organisation you lead that you need complete focus on the interest of the British people. That does not diminish support for the brave Ukrainians. I would choose real delivery for the people of Essex vs Meaningless virtue signalling every time.

*Now* I understand why he took so long - it must have taken ages to write such a lengthy resignation letter.

I understand Starmer did not give his critics any chance to speak against him in this morning's meeting. He delivered a pre-prepared statement informing them he would not leave office, then moved the meeting on to discuss the war in Iran.

Labour: losses everywhere. Reform: good gains made by burning thru ~£8mn (10x what you usually spend on locals) yet did worse than last year. Conservatives: progress on last year, losses in counties set to be abolished but best London results since 2006. Read more below👇 in my Telegraph article where I explain why, despite the setbacks, I'm encouraged with our results this week. The Conservative Party is rebuilding steadily, seriously and with purpose. We are not asking people to forget the past but to judge us by what we do next.
