Every year, alcohol taxes in Canada increase automatically, tied to inflation, without a vote in Parliament.
But there’s a deeper issue. When inflation rises, the tax pushes prices even higher.
Those higher prices then feed back into inflation. A cycle that keeps costs going up.
Reasonable people can debate alcohol taxes. But automatic increases with no oversight?
That’s not how accountability is supposed to work.
If prices go up, Canadians deserve a debate, and a vote.
