This is a stark reality, and nowhere is it worse than in aerospace and defense, where rigorous qualification processes and tight control of technical information, both of which are necessary to keep us safe, create a moat between legacy suppliers and challengers. This moat discourages innovation, invites greed, and poses an existential threat to aircraft and rocket manufacturers, but it doesn't need to be this way. Yesterday, @Saronic was in the news because in a first-of-its-kind operation, a Saronic Corsair ASV rescued two US soldiers from the Strait of Hormuz.
