If federal judges can feel shame, the three-judge panel the Court reversed should be embarrassed. You can hate Callais, you can think it's wrongly decided, but if you're a lower court judge, you have to follow it. Anything else is a threat to the constitutional order.
And this is a bipartisan problem. The two district judges on the panel were Trump appointees. The Eleventh Circuit judges, Clinton. But they put a lot of effort into a case that lasted for years, they became married to their view, and even when the Supreme Court said they were wrong, they refused to change course. So they got flipped with the opinion calling out their hubris.
The constitutional order is more important than a district court judge's pride. Hopefully, that message is now clear.
