Cleaners have always been essential occupational public health workers, but now they must be fully recognised as such and must be paid protected as key workers:
our first line of defence against #COVID19 infection.
Furlough cannot be a waiting room for redundancies. And Trade Unions will not allow it to be so in any sector. Workers should not have to pay for the Covid crisis, with their jobs, pay and conditions, as they did for the banking crisis. Employers and Goverments take heed.
The fact that Scottish councils are having to apply for funding from the Westminster furlough scheme is a damning indictment of the @scotgov under-funding of local government and demonstrates how cash-strapped they are.
