Our review brings evidence on the impact of resilience attributes on farm performance and resilience to climate-related risks, with a focus on quantitative methods and implications for resilience assessment of smallholder farms. From its roots in agronomy research to its impact in the 2000s and 2010s, APSIM's development has been noteworthy. Looking forward, advancements in sensing technology and machine learning offer promising opportunities for enhancing the effectiveness of these models, ensuring their continued relevance in agricultural research and development.
