I often think of the scene in the Iliad where Hector takes Achilles armor off the dead Patroclus. Zeus even refits the armor for Hector. When Hector finally faces Achilles, he stands before him as a mirror image. The dichotomy of Hector and Achilles on full display: Hector seeking honor through duty, Achilles seeking immortality through fame. Their paths, fused by Hector's mistake and Achilles' pride, end in collision. Homer was impeccable.
