Our patron saint Flannery
"Where you come from is gone, where you thought you were going to never was there, and where you are is no good unless you can get away from it. Where is there a place for you to be? No place...In yourself right now is all the place you've got." -From 'Wise Blood,' by Flannery O'Connor, born today in 1925.

A good reason to give yourself to literature…
Something big is happening STEM is dead. CS jobs are gone. I hate to break it to you, but we’re dealing with a Total. Technological. Bloodbath. The ONLY choice you have is to dedicate your life to the humanities. Words. Books. Art. Music. The only lifeline we have left.

You cannot understand how a piece of writing works—structurally, spatially, temporally, linguistically—by reading on your phone (or on a laptop). You can’t see patterns, how one sentence or section relates to another. It’s a disaster for students to learn this way.
