I don't blame little Palau for pawning off their nationhood to gain support. But I have no tolerance for the activist zealots who lie and cheat their way into the UN policy arena. There is a reason they try to hide in the shadows. @the_firebreak
The tiny island state of Palau (pop: 17,000) files a complex initiative to place nicotine under international drug control restrictions. Like many other times, Palau is serving as a UN front group for activist NGOs. NGOs have no qualms using these nations. thefirebreak.org/p/palau-how…

I suspect RFK Jr is taking the punches and waiting quietly until after the midterms to resign and launch his 2028 presidential campaign. He won't go quietly. But what issue will he finally decide to take a stand on?
MAHA likes to portray RFK Jr as the leading light in the US administration. But too often his interests were rejected by other departments - on autism, on glyphosate and now his Predatort brethren have lost their key source of manufactured science: IARC. thefirebreak.org/p/welcoming…

For a decade, I've been claiming that IARC is corrupted, uses a bad methodology, not scientific, run by special interests and Predatorts. It often felt like no one listened. Was I the crazy one? This week I learnt I wasn't. But where did IARC finally lose the plot? My assessment.
After the US government put a health warning on IARC's low quality research, @zaruk wonders what a post-IARC world will look like. Less fear, ignorance or useless lawsuits It will be better and no one will notice when the cancer agency crawls into oblivion thefirebreak.org/p/welcoming…

10 years too late but the US government now identifies IARC as a rogue research institution and conclude their monographs have no value They also need to deny public funding to all Ramazzini fellows (next step). I think they read Nathan Schachtman's paper! state.gov/releases/office-of…

20 Collegium Ramazzini fellows have shown they are capable of destroying public trust in science for personal profit. If anything, because of this threat, Nathan Schachtman's monograph on the IARC - Ramazzini - Litigation industry nexus is essential reading.
There are about 20 Collegium Ramazzini scientists in the US who are #tortogenetic. 20 scientists together can publish a lot of litigation-based papers. 20 opportunists who will profit nicely. 20 integrity-challenged activists who can destroy science @zaruk thefirebreak.org/p/putting-i…

"Every line echoes my thoughts ... a book I wish I had written."
Nathan Schachtman's publication, #IARCsPrecautionaryScience puts the cancer agency under the microscope. @zaruk reviews the book, the failed science, special interests, non-transparency and links to the US litigation industry. Conclusion: Shut IARC down. thefirebreak.org/p/putting-i…

The Copper Sustainability Partnership needs to apologize and take their awful campaign down. It's bad enough for industries to be under constant activist onslaught, but worse if an industry trade group is using bad science, scare tactics and lies to try to gain marketshare.
Industries have codes of conduct guiding their interactions. If they get into the mud, trust in industry finds the quicksand. @zaruk condemns the @CUSPUK for their desperate attacks on plastics. Behaving like an activist NGO only harms all industry. thefirebreak.org/p/why-is-in…

The WHO often claims harm reduction is an industry propaganda concept. Really now... Coming of age during the AIDS crisis, I have another view of harm reduction. It saves lives What happened to the WHO? They bought into Bloomberg's political health dogma. clearingtheair.eu/en/post/ho…

The Bloomberg-WHO simplistic strategy of tobacco/nicotine control via high taxes, sales control has been tested in Australia. Results: -80% illicit sales -Lost tax revenue -Black markets -Gang violence/turf wars The EU plans to do the same as a WHO member. theguardian.com/australia-ne…

This week my article on how IARC was corrupted by the US litigation industry in their 3rd talc monograph was translated into French (see below) and into Hungarian at glifozat.hu/p/hogyan-lett-a-… Thank you André and Attila. When will IARC be held to answer for their political activism?

In @clearingthe_air, I introduce the Zaruk Hypothesis: "If you pay activists enough, they will try to justify the most absurd claims" Those living through the AIDS crisis can easily recognize such activist BS Tobacco harm reduction is safer, no matter how much you pay the zealots
The tobacco debate is really a fight between two worldviews; One demands a fantasy of “100% safe”. The other asks how we reduce harm in the real world. Generation AIDS knows which one saves lives, says David @zaruk. clearingtheair.eu/en/post/ho…

I put this classic Bloomberg quote into my last article as a reminder of why I get up in the morning. Funding an army of activists to enforce some righteous sufferance, Mike thinks his prohibitions are doing good. "Don't let the bastards grind you down!" risk-monger.com/2026/06/02/f…

Why have I been getting so involved in the tobacco harm reduction debate? Have I given up on glyphosate, chemicals and plastics? Far from it. My latest piece shows how these issues are about the same things: zealots, poor science and bad risk management. risk-monger.com/2026/06/02/f…

The sad thing is that VarHar doesn't really care about facts. He is just out to provoke regulators and upset scientists to feed his base in the European Parliament, the extreme right, who win when the European Commission loses.
On #WorldNoTobaccoDay, @OliverVarhelyi released a statement riddled with falsehood and ignornace about the safety of tobacco harm reduction. @peterbeckett and @zaruk show how VarHar has become the EU's Trump, an embarrassing clown who should be fired. thefirebreak.org/p/oliver-va…

WHO/Bloomberg lies and fearmongering is getting more desperate on #WorldNoTobaccoDay. Teen vaping is declining as risk management measures are implemented. Today's the day to help smokers quit. Vapes are the best means to quit (Cochrane). Vaping is 95% safer than smoking (UK gov)
Gen Z is outperforming adults in one category, and it's not the one anyone's celebrating. Vaping. Big Tobacco learned something decades ago: hook them young, keep them forever. Vaping isn't a new product. It's the same playbook with better packaging. Governments can fix this. 🙅‍♂️ Ban the flavours. 🙅‍♂️ Ban the marketing. 🙅‍♂️ Ban the designs built to hook kids. Learn more 👉 bit.ly/4tSkdJ7 #TobaccoExposed #WorldNoTobaccoDay 🚭
Community note
WHO's own report also shows 86M adults vs 14.7M adolescents (13–15) vape globally — adults outnumber teen vapers ~6:1 in absolute terms. iris.who.int/server/api/cor…

The WHO's FCTC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of @BloombergDotOrg, is celebrating #WorldNoTobaccoDay by attacking the best means to quit smoking: via vaping or nicotine pouches. May 31st should be a day to help people quit, not harm them more. Tell the zealots prohibition never works

Yes, congratulations Vietnam. Your state-owned tobacco company, Vinataba, can sell millions more cigarettes, make more money and kill more smokers instead of letting them reduce their harm. The Bloomberg MPOWER Empire does not care who suffers from its irrational political dogma.
Congratulations to the Department of Legislation, Viet Nam Ministry of Health; Health Policy and Strategy Institute; Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital; and Viet Nam Tobacco Control Fund, joint 2026 #WorldNoTobaccoDay Awardees in the Western Pacific Region. They are recognized for coordinated action to advance #TobaccoControl policy in Viet Nam, combining legal expertise, evidence generation, public health response and strategic communication to protect young people from tobacco and nicotine products. In 2025, their work supported major reforms, including a mixed excise tax system and stronger legal measures on e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products – helping close loopholes, counter industry tactics and protect future generations.

These NGO zealots will stop at nothing. Winning is more valued than integrity or honesty.
The Firebreak doesn't like to edit texts post-publication but a follower shared information of research on how Earthjustice was receiving funding from Chinese interests. Working with foreign governments adds to the need for more transparency on NGO funding thefirebreak.org/p/shining-a…

With so much dark NGO funding at risk, changing the reporting process won't be enough. The whole toxic tax-free foundation system has to go. My latest.
In what world could you be allowed to donate to an NGO like Earthjustice that files lawsuits against companies and not have to declare your interests? And then claim a tax deduction??? Only in a world where NGOs control the narrative and won't come clean. thefirebreak.org/p/shining-a…
