It’s not hard to imagine a post-28 bipartisan consensus around KYC for advanced models — especially when labs continually express the danger inherent in their products
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Who has the definitive history of how Seattle became crazy far-left despite having Microsoft, Amazon, etc in town?

Claude Mythos is a great bit of branding. Yes, our model is so good it's literally mythological. I mean it's a good model. I just didn't expect it would be Greek

Unrelated to everything else, OpenAI has tremendously leveled up their comms. What a humanistic message
We recently submitted a confidential S-1. We expect it to leak so we’re just announcing it. We have not decided on timing yet; it may be a while because there are things we want to do that are likely easier as a private company. But it’s a complicated set of tradeoffs and this gives us the option to go public sooner if that ends up being best. This announcement is being made pursuant to Rule 135 under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and does not constitute an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy any securities. Any offers, solicitations of offers to buy, or any sales of securities will be made in accordance with the registration requirements of the Securities Act.

This is true of almost everything in America: success cures all ills. Government blacklists you? Just build the best model in the world and it’ll get sorted out
Sources say a months-long dispute between the White House and Anthropic is showing signs of easing across the US government as the company prepares for its IPO (Reuters) (Visit Techmeme dot com for the link and full context!)

1) DC wealth taxes are uniquely susceptible to failure given how close MD, VA etc are 2) the idea that DC should tax couples making $250k is ludicrous — it’s embarrassingly European to describe that as wealthy
Long overdue that DC taxes its highly concentrated wealth with a 3% Wealth Proceeds Tax. No more "We don't have the resources to fund our safety net" "We can't help communities make ends meet in hard times" "Slash essential programs" Let your Councilmember know you support this

Spent 24 hours in New York. Every bar is playing the Knicks. Central Park is so loud you can hear fans cheering from 10 blocks away. Weather is perfect to walk 50 blocks at a time. Not bad!

Good news: our democracy is saved. It turns out billionaires really can’t buy elections!
If nothing else we should pour one out for Tom Steyer, who pissed away half a BILLION dollars of his own money over two separate campaigns in 2020 and 2026 to finish with absolutely nothing to show for it.

This is a fairly significant win for the safety camp within the admin. I suspect one day we’ll look back at this admin as the last to have both safetyists and accelerationists under one roof—the same way we view Nixon as perhaps the last Republican to house both liberals and conservatives in his administration. Yet another parallel between today and the Nixon era!

If you think money in DC is pervasive now... Anthropic, SpaceX, OAI — huge IPOs are equipping a generation of new political donors whose financial capital dwarfs that of legacy mega-donors

Anthropic has confidentially submitted a draft S-1 registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Pending completion of SEC review, this gives us the option to pursue an initial public offering. Read more: anthropic.com/news/confident…

Good reminder that the American fetishization of small business is often deeply misguided. You can just buy groceries at Costco and no one will yell at you about politics. This is also true of landlords. Corporate landlords are generally great. Mom and pop landlords delay repairing your AC by 3 months.
It took 17 years of organizing, but the Park Slope Food Coop's membership has approved a boycott of all Israeli products. There were 4,572 yes votes, or a 67% majority in favor of a boycott. It's another milestone in liberal America's rupture with Israel.

Reminder
I bet we’re ~6mo from a vibe shift back to OpenAI GPT5.5 is very impressive and 40% cheaper, limits are higher. Codex is stellar and taking mindshare of the top devs I know. Teams I talk to are disillusioned with ROI from soaring Anthropic costs. It’s becoming untenable.
