After seeing of lot of quote tweets coming from this and as someone who's had my own fair share of unfortunate collabs, I urge streamers/Vtubers to set boundaries and expectations BEFORE the collab, and especially trying to interact with the person you'll be collabing with offline at least a couple times before having the collab to make sure you vibe!
A lot of bad collab experiences come from lack of communication, or personalities that just don't sync well, and most don't realize it until after the collab because it's the first time they've interacted outside of chat or dms.
It's completely okay to set boundaries and ask to hang out first to make sure you get along well enough before you're comfortable streaming with them! Or if you're the type that gets along well with anyone and can match their energy, then there's nothing wrong with asking what your collab partner is comfortable with before stream, that way you dont unintentionally cross a boundary you're unaware of.
The main takeaway here is that communication is key and if you want to have a good collab experience, do what you can to ensure it. This doesnt mean it'll work 100% of the time, but it helps avoid a majority of the issues that happen during/after the collab.
Do you guys have any bad collab experiences?
My worst one was a couple years ago with a VTuber. We were supposed to play Valorant together, but something came up on their end. They canceled less than an hour before we were scheduled to go live. I get that emergencies happen, so I reached out to rescheduleโฆ and got completely ghosted. A short while later, they even unfollowed me.
We had similar-sized audiences, so it wasnโt like I was a nobody to them. I was just left hanging with nothing. I hope they were okay, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.
