Proposal: let's create "Gerrymandering: The Jigsaw Puzzle"—a puzzle of all voting districts in the USA— and donate copies to every school.

I literally never reached the point where I couldn't talk because of contractions. I came in bc I'd been in "false labor" for 48 hr, had a nice chat w the nurses, was told the baby sounded great but my vitals were a little up. Checked dilation, then admitted asap bc I was at 9 🤷‍♀️
18 Nov 2025
I called the doctor three times that evening, which was exactly what they said I should do, and here’s how every convo went: “My contractions are now 2-3 minutes apart and very intense, should I come in?” “Um, sigh, well….thats kinda up to you, but we really don’t need to see you until you’re in active labor.” “Well (breathing heavily and unable to speak well during intense contractions)…h..how do I know if I’m in active labor?” “Well, there’s no way to know for sure, but you won’t be able to really talk during contractions.” “That’s ….me….. now..” “Well it seems a bit too soon for that, try to get some sleep.” “Sorry there’s zero chance I’m sleeping through this, I’m writhing in pain every 3 minutes.” “Sigh, well, I’m not here to tell you what to do, just inform your decisions…” (Why the fuck do they tell me to call then) “Um, ok, I think I need to come in.” “If that’s what you want.” “It’s not about what I WANT, I’m just saying if I’m having the baby in the hospital I should probably come to the hospital.” “Sigh, yeah, we can check your dilation when you get here.” I drive 45 minutes to the hospital and check in and get into a bed, a somewhat perturbed nurse checks me “you’re only 4 cm, at this point we usually recommend you return home to get some rest then come back during active labor).” “So you want me to drive 45 minutes back home, writhe around there, then sort of magically feel out when I think I might be 1 more cm dilated and then drive 45 minutes back here?” “Yes, and try to get some sleep.” -____- Everything after this was great but the entire when-to-go-to-the-hospital situation was needlessly frustrating.

It obviously hurt a ton and was very intense, but not in a "rendered incapable of speech" kind of way. Gallstones hurt way worse. Inability to talk is a terrible barometer for how far along you are in labor.

Friends please be aware, a Tsunami is a series of wave carrying a large extra mass of water to our coast. This will NOT be a single wave. Do NOT try to go to the coast to take photos. You're not just putting yourself at risk, you will also be putting rescue teams at risk. #CAwx
⚠️TSUNAMI ADVISORY in effect for the California coast. Stay away from the water! Stay away from beaches and waterways! Remain away from shore until local officials say that it is OK to return. #KnowYourZone at conservation.ca.gov/cgs/tsun…. #CAwx #Tsunami

It is pretty deeply unacceptable that the California state tsunami website isn't working during a coast-wide tsunami alert.

It's too hard to find grants as a disaster survivor. You've just lost everything. You're overwhelmed. You have no clue how you're going to pay to rebuild your life. And then you see on the news that hundreds of millions of dollars were raised to help! But... how do you get a piece of that?

Why is a former FEMA administrator joining a startup? In his words: "This is the first organization I’ve seen that’s building for what disaster recovery should be, not just what it has always been." Welcome to the team, @femapete. We're honored to have you on board.

🎉 Some very exciting news: @meshhq has been acquired by @automattic! Clay will live on as a standalone product and continue to grow—with our entire team remaining at the helm, more resources, and broader reach. Automattic is the parent company of @WordPress (which powers over 40% of the internet) and other fantastic products like @beeper, @tumblr, @dayone, @pocketcasts, and more. Clay has 150 million relationships under management and growing, with everyone from Fortune 500 execs to students using it daily. We’re very thankful to our talented team, amazing investors, and loyal members for being the true champions of this tremendous milestone. I also need to pause here and specially thank my co-founder @Achariam, whose product vision, design excellence, and dedication turned Clay from an idea into the product and business it is today. Building a company is hard. Building one with a co-founder and friend like Matt is a rare gift. That said, we’re not going anywhere! A few things: 1️⃣ Our product and team will be growing, unlike every previous app or product in this space. We started Clay because we had been burned by spending days adding people and notes into apps that eventually shut down. Plaxo, Contactually, Connected, Refresh, Rapportive, Accompany, Brewster, Humin, Xobni, Gist, Cobook, Soocial, RelateIQ — all abandoned or shut down. Clay is a paid product where you are the customer. And Automattic has a number of beautifully-designed, continually-maintained, privacy-conscious apps like Beeper, Day One Journal, and Pocket Casts that have the same philosophy. We are joining the pantheon of beautifully-designed, privacy-respecting, tech-advancing apps. Automattic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. It thinks in 100 year increments, and keeps apps running for decades. 2️⃣ We are your best choice for anything contacts, network, or CRM related. If you believe in any part of our mission, join us. Our team is obsessed with building a great product for your people and relationships, and we ship daily. If you’ve ever wanted a better way to send gifts to friends, or remember birthdays, or scan business cards, or intro people to each other, or search your LinkedIn connections with AI, we either do it today or we will soon. Sign up for free, and say hi at care@clay.earth! 3️⃣ Digital identity and relationship graphs are more important than ever. As AI continues to power our everyday software, your contacts, network, messages, people, and relationships are the last, most sensitive piece of the puzzle. That information shouldn’t be part of LLM training data, ever. But when done locally, just for you, with your permission, it can unlock magical product experiences that bring us closer together. We’re excited to have you with us on this journey, and we look forward to building a brighter, more connected world together. So — thank you for being a part of the Clay community. Let’s build something extraordinary together.

We wanted to take a moment to share some great news! Clay has been acquired by Automattic. By joining forces with @automattic, Clay will not only live on but continue to grow and improve—with our entire team remaining at the helm.

Its only called ‘Forward Deployed Engineer’ if its from the Palantir region of France. Otherwise it’s just ‘sparkling enterprise sales with consulting services’
Almost every vertical voice AI co I meet that has sold into enterprises is running a Palantir-esque FDE model Typically, it’s the founders themselves who “embed” within the first customers …and absorb all the learnings that can then be “productized”

In all seriousness I have had to change my personal writing style somewhat meaningfully because the LLMs and I trained on the same content 😑

Y'all, I decided to check this for myself last night. My insurance company doesn't even have the right number of bathrooms listed for my home. Go check.
Here's a tough reality: between rising construction costs and inflation, millions of U.S. homeowners probably don’t have enough insurance. Here's a few quick ways to check your own status:

40% of small businesses that close after a natural disaster won't open again. A year later, 25% more will close. 3 years later, 75% of small businesses without a continuity plan will fail. So let's get you a continuity plan before hurricane season ⬇️

If you live in the LA area and haven't already: 1. Make sure you're signed up for evacuation notifications. 2. Pack a go bag. 3. Record a video of your home that shows all your belongings. Open closets, drawers, cabinets. Documentation is essential.
Heads up! Strong, locally damaging, NE/E winds will affect West LA Co. & much of Ventura Co thru Wednesday. Critical fire weather is expected, so PLEASE have multiple ways of getting notifications in case of new fires & prepare ahead of time. #venturacounty #LA #Cawx #Socal

There are lots of problems in the bay but this one seems like pretty low hanging (and cheap!!!) fruit that I'd love to see some very rich folks knock out, ideally real soon. Surely a few of you can scrape together a couple million bucks: missionlocal.org/2023/08/dis…
