Gary Neville on Eddie Howe and Newcastle United: "It is a really disappointing season. The transfer business at the end of the window in the summer was a real problem for them because they ended up with Woltemade and Wissa and that has just not paid off yet at all. That is the difference right now. I think full faith in Eddie Howe. Full trust in Eddie Howe. That is the way to go. They have got a really, really good manager. So where at some clubs it is easy to say 'let's shift the manager and let's keep the players because they have got five-year contracts, six-year contracts', it is absolutely the other way round at Newcastle, I would think. I would think they would be thinking if we lost him, we have lost an eight-and-a-half out of 10 manager. Someone who is a real solid performer. Someone who is reliable, consistent, someone who has got a great attitude. I think basically now, I hope they are sitting down with Eddie Howe and I hope they are going through 'these are the players I want you to shift for me, these are the players I am going to buy into for next season, I want to get these four or five [players] in and I want our business to be done early whilst everyone is thinking about the World Cup, everybody is planning, I want these players in.' I am hoping they are in a really sure period behind the scenes where they are really getting themselves sorted for next season because for Newcastle now to be where they are, they are a really good side and I like watching them, there is a lot there to like about them (v Arsenal) They didn't have a cutting edge but Wissa should have scored. If that is Isak (🇸🇪🐀) he does score. They are going to need to back their manager properly. Buy into him, back him. They do obviously back him and have done over a long time but almost go again with him. Lean into making the manager the guy you believe in and say to the players: 'Right, who wants to be on this bus?' That is what I would do if I was Newcastle (management) because I think they have one of the very best there. I think he will pick them up and have them challenging for the Champions League again next season" I think Gary speaks a lot of truth here and this is surely what will happen. The pressure will be on to right the wrongs of this season straight away though to avoid the Spurs 2.0 tag!!! Thoughts on Neville's take on Newcastle United? #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL

This is, perhaps, the best summary of the situation I have read 👏🏻👏🏻#nufc
If this manager were available, the Howe Out folks would be dying to bring him in… - Spent 4 1/2 years at last club - Qualified for the CL twice - 1st time in 20 years - First ever knockout stages of CL for club - Two cup finals - First in 25 years - Ended 56-year trophy drought - 4th highest in league points since taking over - Club went numerous windows without improving the team - 49% win percentage - Finished 11th, 4th (highest in 20 years), 7th, and 5th - Took over club in relegation place and helped them become the first club in history to avoid relegation after not winning any of their first 14 games (previous manager’s run) - Finished 14th and was sacked But this is Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle, so they desperately want him sacked. #NUFC

For those asking why I back Howe. Two champions league qualifications in four years having inherited a team destined for relegation. Won the club’s first domestic trophy for 70 years despite the club’s failure to sign a player to improve the first team since Tonali in 2023 because of PSR. Forced to sell Anderson and Minteh for PSR. Was left last summer without a sporting director and a CEO. lost isak on deadline day - the team’s top goalscorer and most important player - and missed out on Trafford, Ekitike, Pedro and Sesko as they went elsewhere for money and to club’s with more aura in London and Manchester. Yeah he’s made mistakes, but if you look at everything he has achieved I’d back him over anyone else to lead the rebuild as a manager with a proper recruitment structure in place #nufc
Eddie Howe remains the best manager for Newcastle United and deserves the chance to rebuild the squad in the summer with a proper support structure in place. If he leaves in the summer, I believe the club will regret it. Probably swiftly and for a long time. This is my opinion. I have covered the club for 23 years. I watch them pretty much every week and nothing that happens between now and the end of May will change my mind. It’s fine to disagree. I’ve seen a few comments about where I’m from recently and the fact I’m not a fan. Like that prevents me from having an opinion on a club it is my job to cover and has been for more than two decades. This is my professional opinion as a football journalist. Lots of you will disagree with it. But I also know many of you agree with me because I speak to people all the time and don’t spend my entire day on here. Opinions vary, that’s absolutely fine #nufc
