Really nervous to promote this post but students disappointed with their A-levels have contacted me, worried they won't get into uni & I hope that sharing my bumpy academic journey will ease their minds. Anyone can do science! 🥳 #scicomm #WomenInScience abioblog.wordpress.com/2019/…

New study from us: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia… High mtDNA copy number promotes lung cancer growth in the mouse, whereas mtDNA depletion in tumor cells reduces tumor growth. This tumor-intrinsic role for mtDNA can be exploited for development of future lung cancer therapies.

This welcome for the amazing @kevinhunterday at his beloved @CPFC left us all rather emotional after a spectacular 3 days of walking with Kevin (who did the hard graft of all 62 miles). You can still support Kevin via this link: justgiving.com/campaign/kevi… #marchoftheday #football
Such a thrill to meet all the wonderful people from @4Lilyfoundation on @kevinhunterday #marchoftheday. You smash it mate and just to do part of the walk with you was amazing. You deserved this at the end of the walk @CPFC did you proud.

During evolution fragments of mitochondrial genome have been inserted into the nuclear genome - like viral pieces of DNA! We now find that mito-nuclear DNA transfer happens in the human brain along the lifespan and every few days in cultured cells. journals.plos.org/plosbiolog…
