ALT Rip Currents: Know Your Options. If caught in a rip current: 1) Relax, rip currents don't pull you under. 2) Don't swim against the current. 3) Swim out of the current, then to shore. 4) If you can't escape, float or tread water. 5) If you need help, yell or wave for assistance. Rip currents are powerful currents of water moving away from shore. They can sweep even the strongest swimmer away from shore. If at all possible, swim near a lifeguard.
ALT There is an elevated severe thunderstorm potential later this afternoon and this evening along with a flash flood threat. The greater flash flood threat is mainly near and north and west of I-95. The greatest damaging wind potential will be with any organized squall line after 4 PM today.
ALT Air Quality and Health Exposure to air pollutants such as particulate matter and ground-level ozone can cause: Headaches; Difficulty breathing; Irritated eyes, sinuses; Irritated throat, increased coughing; Chest pains, asthma attacks; Fatigue. Poor air quality can be hazardous to anyone, and can aggravate health problems such as asthma, heart disease, and lung disease. Seniors, children and those with compromised immune systems are especially at risk.
ALT Minor coastal flooding is forecast for the Atlantic coasts of Delaware and New Jersey, Delaware Bay, and the tidal Delaware River.
ALT It is recommended to remain out of the water Thursday due to a HIGH risk for the development of dangerous rip currents.
ALT Hurricane Preparedness: Use Caution After Storms. If you evacuate, only return home when directed it's safe to do so. Remain vigilant, as hazards remain: heat, downed powerlines, floodwaters, & more. Clean up safely: don't push yourself, and check on neighbors. Only use generators outdoors, 20 feet from your home.
