This is truly wild. The House is about to reorganize the federal copyright and library system without a hearing or robust buy in from almost any impacted group.
As the House looks to vote on H.R. 6028, Re:Create Executive Director @bc_butler issued the following statement in opposition to the legislation:

Pope Leo XIV in a very practical Lenten Message to all Christians says: “I would like to invite you to a very practical and frequently unappreciated form of abstinence: that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbor. Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and cannot defend themselves. Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect in our families, among our friends, at work, on social media, in political debates, in the media and in Christian communities. In this way, words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace.” Full text here: press.vatican.va/content/sal…

Very sadly, yes. I have experienced this. On an interpersonal and professional level lying causes so much damage to relationships. Very hard to recover when one discovers that promises are worthless and reality is skewed to serve one's purposes. *Important lesson to NOT do this.*
I remember the first time I had to come to grips with the fact that someone I trusted was lying to me. They looked me in the face and asked me to believe that what I saw with my own two eyes wasn't true. When you recover from that surreal moment, you realize never to put too much trust in what you cannot verify yourself. People will invest in deceiving you when it suits them.

I think this is exactly right thinking. Look, this is when God chose for you to be born; this postmodern, post-truth, crazy AI time in human history is where you’ve been placed. And it’s good for your soul to make the most of it. Keep what you can. Work around the parts you don’t like. There’s wisdom in identifying what’s wrong with a thing while acknowledging the possibility there’s some work God wants to do in you and these are the circumstances by which He means to do it. Flee harm and oppression when you are truly afflicted, but bear with the brokenness of this world and be sanctified through it as often as you can.

You can rail against “the system” all you want but the time comes that you have to look in the mirror and decide what you are willing to risk and what you are not I’m pretty system bound because I’m raising a family and that’s the choice I’ve made. I work around the edges to try to make it better

The epitome of an honest, gracious response to a disappointing change. Thank you for modeling this well.
Replying to @jennfrey
Despite the shock and sadness all this brings, I remain proud of all we accomplished together as a college in the past two years.  Being Dean of Honors has been the highlight of my career, and working with these students and faculty has been a privilege, honor, and joy (14/21)

A side effect of so much of academia leaving this site is that the interesting RCTs & other studies that used to be the center of so much of the best debate aren’t being posted, made worse by the fact you can’t post links This has had a lot of impact on the quality of discussion
