A single mother of three sons with disabilities, with the oldest being 43 years old spoke at meeting.
She explained that she feels entirely unsupported by the government and services, and worries what would happen to her children if anything happened to her.
I have no day service, I have no home supports, I have no liaison nurse, no occupational therapist. We actually have nothing - even to the extent that they never even check up on my three sons to make sure they’re being well looked after.”
My oldest is 43 and we have fought 43 years for even the smallest thing - it’s shocking on families with people with disability. From the day they’re born it has been a battle and it’s getting worse by the day. My lads are assessed as needing 24 hour care,” she said.
“I’ve tried everything and everybody and I have been ignored.

My lovely folks sent me in some salad 🥗 and yummy brown bread. It’s the little things like this that are a treat when you’re in with your precious kiddo in hospital for a long stint. Mum even made a little dressing. It was delish. 💚#CarersWeek#IfYaKnowYaKnow#SelfCare#BWD
Internal report confirms public child patients forced to wait for surgery – private patients prioritised
An internal report obtained by The Ditch has exposed hospital consultants prioritising private child patients over those on public lists – with public patients forced to wait significantly longer for vital surgery. @wereontheditch
With one urology consultant, public patients have waited almost a year longer for surgery than those with private health insurance. Some children have waited an average of more than six months longer for time-sensitive spinal surgery because they were not privately covered.
The report also found in 2023 alone the HSE paid more than €2.1 million for children’s spinal surgeries at Dublin’s private Blackrock Clinic despite senior health staff insisting there was capacity in public hospitals.

Are there material incentives to do idiopathic scoliosis surgeries at Blackrock rather than Cappagh ? @paulmurphy_TD
Confirmation from Lucy Nugent that the surgeon being investigated for the insertion of non-medical grade spring into children is still being paid.

Sent to us by a person who was hoping to go to the Katie Taylor event in CrokePark but due to the fact they have to pay for their assistance companion the tickets are unaffordable.
Disappointing due to the fact our community is most affected by poverty.

Maybe @RTERadio1 would have a chat with the campaigners who have been campaigning around the issue of fuel and food poverty for those with disabilities and carers, our elderly and the wider impoverished community for nearly a year now?
Maybe?

Just now on @morningireland Dr Clair Keane on a report they have launched today on the impacts of removing the cost of living measures by government on the lowest incomes in Irish society.
Shock and horror but findings show that those on the lower incomes and social welfare supports have seen their incomes reduced and are suffering the most when it comes to the very basics.
People who are reliant on additional supports have seen an increased sizeable chunk of their supports swallowed up on “Heating and Eatting” plugging them further into poverty.
We’ve been campaigning for nearly a year now with the @IrishWheelchair and the @DisabilityFed for an emergency support but alas it has fallen on deaf Government ears.

I’ve spent over a decade campaigning for the rights of our disabled citizens.
Life is undeniably hard for a person with a disability in Ireland but I never thought I’d live to see disability wielded as a weapon of war.
So many children now face a life of pain.

Unacceptable and illegal. Sligo Councillors are rightly standing united with the frightened residents of Nazareth Village, the independent sheltered social housing complex for older people on the grounds of Nazareth House as they face staggering, unconscionable rent hikes of up to 176%.
These are independent living units designed specifically to provide affordable, safe, and secure shelter for older people. Implementing an explosive rent hike overnight effectively prices them out of their own homes and leaves them with nowhere else to go.
Our older generation deserves dignity, security, and the absolute right to speak up about their living conditions without the terrifying fear of being priced out or abandoned. We must demand Government intervention and protections to ensure that housing associations cannot exploit, neglect, or financially squeeze the very people they were established to protect.

My bed for the last 4.5 weeks, who knows how long more. This is the reality for carers who have children with ID & complex medical needs. There are no facilities for us in adult hospitals. What do people thinks comes of our children when they reach 18?😓
I’m waiting for the next train home after a looong day in town because the driver on the last train refused to put the ramp down to assist me off. Wtf @IrishRail , you need to have a serious talk with your drivers.
We are into the meat and bones of today’s event.
People with the lived experiences around transport along with the additional costs of living with a disability.
All the panel are people with disabilities and their voices are the most important voices in this conversation.

“RTÉ News: Family carers facing significant financial pressure - report.”
Time and again we have highlighted how family carers, who save the state billions, are falling further behind.
We hear lots of soundbites from Gov but nothing changes!

Acecss For All Ireland is attending the @NDAIreland event today. Today’s event is titled “Advancing Accessibility in Transport”.
We are looking forward to hearing the views from all the stakeholders when it comes to accessible and inclusive public transport systems and to learn how our European partners are addressing their accessible transport issues.

More revelations in today’s @Independent_ie from the Whistleblower Anita Little around Harvey’s care.
A year on from the massive outpouring of grief and suppprt for @GillSherratt23 and @Stephen63224725 after the sudden and shocking passing of Harvey it appears now that when the level of poor clinical care was highlighted nothing was done!
This is a failure that has caused so much pain, suffering and harm and accountability is needed.
Where is our Enquiry @CarrollJennifer#justiceforharvey
2/ I have a special request, there is a really lovely women on our ward and she is a great advocate for disabilities. She has no tablet to watch & the days, weeks, months are long in here. If anyone has a tablet/ iPad to spare can you pls dm me as I know she would appreciate it.
Not only were supports removed but now it’s a given we pay the highest electricity prices in Europe.
Families like ours who have someone who lives with a disability in their family a warm home is essential for their health and wellbeing, we are already living hand to mounts and now we are being crucified by these extortionate prices, enough is enough!

At the end of a plan to improve disability services for children, the Government has missed its own target for completed Assessments of Needs over a two-and-a-half year period rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/060…
So the have missed the AON target set by Gov by over five thousand.
Another target promised and another target missed and who suffers?
We all know that answer!
Interestingly no Government minister available to talk on Morning Ireland in relation to this massive shortfall.
Again it’s a case of we say nothing it might just go away!!!!!
