Just now on @morningireland Dr Clair Keane on a report they have launched today on the impacts of removing the cost of living measures by government on the lowest incomes in Irish society. Shock and horror but findings show that those on the lower incomes and social welfare supports have seen their incomes reduced and are suffering the most when it comes to the very basics. People who are reliant on additional supports have seen an increased sizeable chunk of their supports swallowed up on “Heating and Eatting” plugging them further into poverty. We’ve been campaigning for nearly a year now with the @IrishWheelchair and the @DisabilityFed for an emergency support but alas it has fallen on deaf Government ears. Sligo Councillors are rightly standing united with the frightened residents of Nazareth Village, the independent sheltered social housing complex for older people on the grounds of Nazareth House as they face staggering, unconscionable rent hikes of up to 176%. These are independent living units designed specifically to provide affordable, safe, and secure shelter for older people. Implementing an explosive rent hike overnight effectively prices them out of their own homes and leaves them with nowhere else to go. Our older generation deserves dignity, security, and the absolute right to speak up about their living conditions without the terrifying fear of being priced out or abandoned. More revelations in today’s @Independent_ie from the Whistleblower Anita Little around Harvey’s care. A year on from the massive outpouring of grief and suppprt for @GillSherratt23 and @Stephen63224725 after the sudden and shocking passing of Harvey it appears now that when the level of poor clinical care was highlighted nothing was done! Not only were supports removed but now it’s a given we pay the highest electricity prices in Europe. So the have missed the AON target set by Gov by over five thousand. Another target promised and another target missed and who suffers? We all know that answer! Interestingly no Government minister available to talk on Morning Ireland in relation to this massive shortfall. Again it’s a case of we say nothing it might just go away!!!!!
