📍Sofia -- An excellent opportunity for an engaging and forward-looking fireside chat at the @ECFR event on “EU Enlargement and the Western Balkans”, hosted by Vessela Tcherneva and the Embassy of Albania in Bulgaria. 🇦🇱🇧🇬 Our discussion focused on the renewed momentum behind EU #enlargement and the place of the Western Balkans in an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving geopolitical environment. I was pleased to share #Albania’s perspective on the opportunities and responsibilities that come with this new phase of the enlargement process, as well as the significant progress our country has made on its path towards #EU membership. In today’s strategic context, enlargement is no longer viewed solely as a policy of transformation. It has become a strategic investment in Europe’s security, stability, competitiveness, and long-term resilience. The lessons of recent years have made it clear that a stronger, more united, and geopolitically capable Europe cannot be fully achieved without the integration of the #WesternBalkans into the EU. I emphasized that Albania’s EU accession process, now entering its most decisive and consequential phase, is far more than a foreign policy objective. It is a national aspiration that enjoys broad and enduring support across the political spectrum and throughout Albanian society. Driven by an ambitious reform agenda and a strong commitment to delivering tangible results, our European journey reflects not only institutional transformation but also a clear national and societal choice about the future we want to build. I also underlined that a credible, merit-based enlargement process is in the interest of both candidate countries and the EU itself. #Albania remains fully focused on and committed to maintaining the current momentum, accelerating reforms, and advancing decisively through the negotiation process. Our objective is ambitious but realistic: to conclude accession negotiations by 2027 and achieve full membership by 2030. 📍 Dublin -- Always a distinct moment to engage with civil society and the think tank community. I was pleased to participate in a roundtable discussion at the Institute of International and European Affairs @IIEA, engaging in a thoughtful and forward-looking exchange on “Albania’s European Journey”, a journey that has now entered its most dynamic, demanding, and consequential phase since the country embarked on its democratic transformation more than three decades ago. The discussion provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on Albania’s reform progress, the renewed momentum behind EU enlargement, and the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead as we advance towards our strategic objective of European Union membership. We also discussed the broader dynamics of EU #enlargement at a time when geopolitical developments have reinforced the strategic importance of a credible and merit-based accession process. We reflected on Ireland’s longstanding support for enlargement and on the important role the upcoming #Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union can play in advancing discussions on the future of Europe and the integration of aspiring member states. Fruitful meeting in Dublin with Pat Ivory, Director of EU and International Affairs at @ibec_irl 🇦🇱🇮🇪 Albania’s path towards EU membership is not merely a regulatory or institutional exercise; it is, above all, a profound economic transformation. In this process, the business community is not simply a stakeholder but a key driver of the country’s preparedness, competitiveness, and long-term success within the European Union. Our discussions focused on the importance of strengthening public-private dialogue and on learning from #Ireland’s successful experience in building effective cooperation between businesses, public institutions, and European structures. Particular attention was devoted to preparing Albanian enterprises for the opportunities and responsibilities that come with participation in the EU Single Market. Enhancing competitiveness, fostering innovation, aligning with European standards, and increasing the capacity of businesses to operate in a more integrated economic environment will be essential to ensuring that Albania fully benefits from membership. Looking ahead, institutionalising structured dialogue with the private sector across the various negotiation clusters will be crucial. A successful accession process requires not only government ownership but also the active engagement of businesses, whose experience, expertise, and adaptability will be indispensable in making Albania’s European integration both sustainable and transformative. #Horizon2030

📍 Sofia -- Great to meet with the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria @vpetrova_mfa, reaffirming the strong partnership between Albania and Bulgaria. 🇦🇱🇧🇬 Our discussions highlighted the importance of further deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in key areas such as energy, infrastructure and strategic connectivity. In this context, we underscored the significance of #Corridor VIII as a vital link between the Adriatic and Black Sea regions, with substantial potential to enhance trade, mobility and sustainable economic development across #SoutheastEurope. We also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, security, good-neighbourly relations and the European future of the #WesternBalkans. Albania highly values Bulgaria’s consistent support for our EU accession process and its continued advocacy for a credible enlargement policy. We further highlighted the important role of national minorities in our respective countries as bridges of friendship and cooperation.

📍Sofia -- Pleased to particpate at the Ministerial meeting of #SEECP, marking also the 30th anniversary of the process. What began as a genuine aspiration has, over the years, evolved into a lasting and impactful project. Today, it stands as the region’s leading political forum, fostering dialogue, building trust, and strengthening good neighbourly relations. In doing so, it has demonstrated that regional ownership, mutual respect, and a shared vision can contribute meaningfully to greater stability, prosperity, and integration across our region. Economic cooperation and regional integration must remain at the core of our collective efforts. The Berlin Process, the Growth Plan, the Common Regional Market, and broader connectivity initiatives, including #CorridorVIII and other strategic projects, continue to offer tangible opportunities to deepen economic integration, enhance competitiveness, and improve the lives of our citizens. Our #European accession path has entered its most dynamic and consequential phase. Our objective remains ambitious yet realistic: to conclude accession negotiations by 2027 and achieve full membership in the European Union by 2030. A successful merit-based enlargement process can only succeed if it functions credibly and consistently on both sides. This understanding was reaffirmed last week in Tivat, where EU and Western Balkan leaders agreed on the need to inject renewed political momentum and strategic vision into the enlargement agenda. We stand ready, fully committed to delivering on our responsibilities and advancing the reforms necessary to achieve this goal. Albania will continue to invest in #regional cooperation. While the progress achieved thus far is undeniable, vulnerabilities remain. If left unaddressed, they risk undermining stability, slowing development, and creating space for external influences that do not align with our shared European aspirations. For this reason, deeper cooperation and stronger interconnections are not merely a regional imperative; they are a strategic investment in the security, stability, and prosperity of the region and Europe as a whole. 📍Sofia, Bulgaria - I was pleased to have a meaningful exchange with the President of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Mihaela Dotsova. 🇦🇱🇧🇬 We reaffirmed the strong partnership between #Albania and #Bulgaria and our shared commitment to further expanding cooperation in key areas such as the economy, energy, tourism, and connectivity. In this context, we underscored the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including through parliamentary friendship groups, as a valuable instrument for strengthening bilateral ties. We also discussed Albania’s EU integration path, the importance of continued support from EU Member States, and the strategic significance of the #European future of the #WesternBalkans for the stability, security, and prosperity of both the region and the European Union.
