First of several stories from my trip to Gisborne last week - local businesses are really struggling with the decline in forestry.
The economic downturn is a problem that Gisborne's Chamber of Commerce president Ashley Fisher is worried about. "People are on the brink of closure, that's the reality that they're dealing with," he said. rnz.co.nz/news/national/5295… @AlexaCook_

Get yourself a friend like @KaitlinRuddock, who sends you beautiful flowers even though her wonderful job at @FairGoNZ is in the same boat. So much aroha for this talented woman - we've come a long way since Broadcasting School, and this set back will not knock us down! ❤️

Just finished reading Mike Bush's 117[g review into HB's response to Cyclone Gabrielle so you don't have to. Here are some zingers that stood out 🧵

There’s a broadcasting industry crisis and the Broadcasting Minister is MIA. We’ve tried for 10 days to get her on the show to talk about the state of it, and she’s either refused or not responded. She doesn’t even have a press secretary. What a shambles.

@AlexaCook_ and @NewshubNZ did an amazing job on this #LongCovid back in January. @drayeshaverrall, @nzlabour, and @minhealthnz did not see fit to implement any of the recommendations or to assist those in Aotearoa affected by LC in any way. The battle continues daily.

Interviewed RE forestry slash by @NewshubNZ @AlexaCook_ from the #CycloneGabrielle devastation. The solution is simple; ban clear-fell harvesting on these high-risk slopes. A just transition of this landscape is far harder; it will require funding & listening to Ngati Porou.
