Jonathan Reynolds - Labour MP for Stalybridge and Hyde (Greater Manchester) since 2010.
Jonathan is the Secretary of State for Business and Trade and is one of the linchpins of Keir Starmer’s brave new working people world.
There is an old Labour air of no-nonsense conviviality about Jonathan. He advocates for many of the right causes - increasing the minimum wage, banning zero hour contracts, positive environmental initiatives and even criticising Amazon.
Jonathan was in the news recently when it was discovered that he had claimed to have been a solicitor when this wasn’t the case.
Jonathan is an ‘officer’ and vice chair in Labour Friends of Israel and was very much involved in the plots, coups and leadership bids aimed at removing Jeremy Corbyn as party leader.
The Manchester Evening News has found that no Manchester MP claims more in expenses than Jonathan.
@SkyNews found that the highest rent claimed by any Labour MP for accommodation in London was from Jonathan.
Jonathan’s wife is also his senior Parliamentary assistant.
Jonathan has accepted the following donations and perks:

With his £150,000 salary, expenses (£67,307.91 claimed since 1/4/24), donations, his wife’s £41,000 salary, allowances and perks, Jonathan has certainly done well on the yellow brick road to Westminster.
Jonathan has repeatedly said (though not during the election campaign) that welfare cuts were necessary to offset the £22 billion black hole.
And so it was with a heavy heart on 9th July 2025 that Jonathan voted for the Universal Credit/PIP cuts that will result in further hardship down the line for people who are disabled and vulnerable. Jonathan also voted to scrap the
#WinterFuelPayment to pensioners 🥶 and voted to retain the two child benefit cap which ‘significantly contributes to child poverty’ in the UK.
