Come work with us! I am looking for a new postdoc (3yrs) to work on terrestrial lidar and carbon in temperate forests. Based in beautiful Ghent, great fieldwork locations & collaboration with our partners of Climate Solutions Exchange and UOxford. More on bit.ly/2VLoLqr

First tree of the season in the ground, and not a bad end of day view to make progress on beat up survey.

Surprising: according to Friends of the Earth, some major national parks even have lower woodland cover than major cities, for example, woodland cover in the Yorkshire Dales is just 4.1% compared to London at 4.5%. environmentjournal.online/ar… @NEE_CCo @NENaturePShip @IanDuncanHMG

Fantastic photos and a cracking job being done on site. Amazed how much more you’ve done since Thursday afternoon @benjaminjmiller

How’s this for taking our site surveying by drone to the next level! Looking forward to the 3D images it will produce. 50ha site completely surveyed in under 20 minutes.

"We know planting more trees can deliver for the climate emergency & the nature emergency. Using more wood CO2ts less. If @ZacGoldsmith sees the wood and the trees, perhaps we can hit the tough planting target." Read Confor @Wood_for_Good in @politicshome bit.ly/2FaXRjl

This has been dumped, empty, at one of our sites in Cumbria. Near Killington Lake. Please share to try and find the owner. Police aware.

Fascinating... Source via @FlyingQuercus: recommends as early as 1764 that a resilient nursery sector should be supported by Government to ensure the multiple benefits they bring. Growing "Timber trees of all sorts, foreign & domestic; wood for joiners...& Apple trees for Cyder"!

The Government is spectacularly failing to deliver on tree planting aims #ClimateCrisis & #GreenRecovery mean surely @DefraGovUK @ZacGoldsmith should engage with private sector solutions to this? They know where to find me!

To describe this level of planting as pitiful is about as polite as can be. There needs to be a quantum leap in willingness to engage with new initiatives the private sector are developing @DefraGovUK @ZacGoldsmith

Conifer planting in England fell to just 230 hectares in 2019-20. The UK Government will not hit planting targets or increase home-grown wood use (& reduce heavy reliance on imported wood) unless it puts greater focus on productive planting, says @StuGood3 bit.ly/2YssiHE

Confor has described a reply to its complaint about a @BBCNews story - which claimed new UK forests could do more harm - as “cursory”. CEO @stugood3 says the industry was not given any right of reply and he does not consider the matter closed. Story here: bit.ly/2ztDueT

Finding out ⁦@POferries⁩ owned by staggeringly wealthy Dubai makes me even angrier they refuse travel and refuse refunds during the lockdown ⁦@NatalieElphicke⁩ A firm that deserves stripping of their right to operate in UK waters. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ke…
Full moon round here means Osprey pilots out having lots of fun, nice if you can get the gig! My eyesight would fail me at the recruitment desk!

50ha 22 year old woodland in an agricultural landscape close to a large town - aye, productive woodlands are a biodiversity desert. Red squirrel, badger, rabbit, buzzard, Roe, lichen flora, developing deadwood and, sadly, Ash dieback, all seen on a casual site inspection walk.

It’s not just small companies doing this @concertina226 @BBCNews @BBCBusiness Big firms like @POferries also refusing travel and keeping money for themselves. Coronavirus: ‘We won’t get a refund on our £17,000 chalet’ bbc.co.uk/news/business-5220…

I actually laughed at how stereotypically cliched @BBCNews article is. But typical of current standard of appalling journalism by all media. We don’t watch any news now. Also ignores carbon storage vs sequestration. Can only ever be stored in soil, trees can offer sequestration.
Replying to @MilesKing10
Very poor article from @RHarrabin at @BBCNews No chance of mass tree planting on #deeppeats or other #priorityhabitats since 1990s due to #ForestryEnvironmentImpactAssessment & #UKForestryStandard. #AskaForester for articles on #tree planting. Similar errors by @guardian

Please ensure @DominicRaab all those involved in getting Coral Princess passengers home know of our gratitude. My 7 year old went to bed happy tonight now Grandad & Grandma are home rather than crying himself to sleep each night. THANK YOU
